Is there any video encoders out there that will encode video for the ascend. i saw a post about a week ago talking about it but i dont see it now.

also i have had the phone for 2 weeks now, with metro service. Acording to metros map i am in the best coverage area. I havn't noticed the phone in 3g, only 1x on the data. is there something i can change in the setting to have 3g. i thought this phone was supposed to be 3g but maybee i am wrong. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I don't know about the video encoder, but I have read about metro converting their 3g towers into 4g and leaving people without 3g service. It is a3g phone, though.

I know of this free program. There are tons of free converters out there that are free to download but they turn out to be trials. Some converters cost a lot of money, and some universal ones can even cost you more than a hundred. I know this FREE non-trial full featured completely legal converter program. Best of all, it is universal. I know it sounds too good to be true, but this is one of those rarities where it actually is. PM me and I will tell you the name of the converter. This program would literally cost you more than a hundred bucks, but it is totally free and it supports more file formats than those premium ones that cost you more than a hundred bucks.

And no, Metro does not have 3G. Only 1x and 4G, but the Ascend only supports 1x. Sorry.:)

You can also download Skyfire browser 3.0 on your ascend. Works like a charm for me, way better than stock browser, and playes any embedded video. In addition to that, it has an android/pc switch to allow you to go to sites as if surfing from a desktop/laptop computer on your phone. And it optomizes your phone before each play, so even in 1x it streams almost flawlessly depending on which time you watch videos with it.

If you haven't ever tried Miro, give it a whirl. Miro | Video Player | Free video and audio podcast player and torrent client. Its open source and part of the participatory project organisation, from which there are many great applications. Its great for downoading and playing all types of video. There is a really fast conversion tool (supports multi-core cpu), just select the video and convert it to IPOD Classic format. I have had the chance to test it with a source mp4 and it worked nicely. I will try to test with some high quality h.264 and xvid source files and see how they work.

Handbrake can also be used I will post up some directions once I am satisfied with the results.

That was going to be my question. Why not make the information available to everyone? There's no reason to make this exclusive. What I read looked more like an infomercial sales pitch than a simple assist of a fellow user.

"How much would you pay for this amazing item?"
