Help Ghost SMS Message: Unable to Delete (Help)

Hey Ya'll,

Maybe you can help me with my SMS problem. I haven't been able to find a solution from the other posts. In one of my contacts (people), under messages, there is a new message (still bold). When I click on the message, it doesn't open in the SMS app (it's just white). I also can't delete this message--- or at least don't know how to since I can't open it.

When I get a new text message, sometimes this will pop up in the notifications (so I see this text message in the notifications but can't open it too).

How do I get rid of this thing. The message is actually a break up text from an ex--- ironic----that haunts me every time I get a text and have to see it. I finally had enough. Any ideas?

Go into manage apps and find the messaging app and clear the data (you will lose all of your texts)

I tried that but it didn't work (it actually didn't delete any text messages either). I went to settings, applications, manage applications and found the app and cleared the data.

I also noticed every time I delete a thread this "ghost message" comes up in the notifications as a new message.

Yes I am. Should I use something else? Thank you for helping me...I really appreciate it. When I delete this contact from my phone, the message goes away. When I put her number back in, it still shows that one new message under messages in the contacts.

are they linked to facebook? Try unlinking and see what happens.

Or have you tried deleting all your text messages from that person?

I've had this exact same problem for two weeks now, and after reading your post last night, i downloaded SMS Cleaner and it seems to have remedied my problem. This app lets you delete SMS messages based on keyword, time, or contact. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much fiberoptic! It's fixed. That new unread message started to get so annoying, just had to uncheck the "keep new message" option under settings in the app. Any idea how this happened?

I don't have much to prove this, but i think in my case, i first received the ghost sms message while deleting a message thread from a contact while simultaneously receiving a message from the same contact.
I've taken to deleting message threads at a time when I'm not expecting to receive sms messages and subsequently haven't had this problem since.

SO STOKED! I have been having this exact same problem for WEEKS. Not as sad as the poster's situation (hope you're okay, man), but I was getting pretty friggin' sick of the "no prob" text message from my friend showing up every time I got a new text.

I don't know why I didn't do a web search first, but I spent 90 minutes on the phone with Verizon tech support this morning, rebooted my phone 12 times, and deleted all my existing text messages to no avail. Verizon said I'd have to wipe my phone to solve it. (Boo, Verizon!)

Yay, Android forums!



Now if you'll excuse me, I have 3,200 text messages to restore. Argh...
