Root Why: "error[170]: USB connection error"

Here is the PC36IMG.zip file you need. Go read the Rooting for Dummies guide - it's a sticky at the top of this section. There are instructions there for how to unroot. You'll first need to flash the unrevoked S-ON tool from recovery, then you can flash this PC36IMG.zip file. There are instructions there for how to do both. Let me know if you need any more help with it.

What was your root method? If it was unrevoked, did you flash the S-ON tool already? What is your hboot version? Have you tried a PC36IMG.zip file? That's likely a better option.

Just wanted to say thanx . Did the PC36IMG.zip and unrooted. However the reason I had to unroot is bc my internet slowed down for approx. 3-5 min. wait time, was going to Sprint, unrooted, back to norm. No wait. Was it the auto root v.2.2? What's the best root? I need root.

I have used a RUU in the past, and its taken up to like 8 times to get it to go through. So i dont know what its deal is.
I also have tried the PC36IMG like akazabam said instead, and it worked a lot easier. The Rooting for Dummies Guide has step by step instructions and are very detailed, its stickied on the top of the list of threads.

Took your suggestion and unrooted, thanx.

You want to root again? Autoroot is fine if you did it before, but unrevoked is regarded as the easiest method (and is probably the safest). Both methods are going to use unrevoked forever to root (unless you do the quick method with autoroot, and that only works if your phone came with hboot 0.97 or under).

I have hboot 2.10 and auto rooted w/ v.2.2. maybe why I had poor internet speed. unrevoked is very popular in the android world, just wasn't sure me being new. And yes I want to root again seeing there's nothing wrong with me evo, not needing to go to Sprint. Might as well get a trac phone if I'm not going to root. lol. Peace.

I have been trying to do everything to get this task done. I have no internet wifi at home and I want free mobile hotspot. But I need to root phone. I have stupidly upgraded to the gingerbread 2.3.3 and I can't do shit with it. Well I never knew about unrooting your android either.

Well I need help with this. Again I have tried unrevoked, and adk sdk, many more video instructions on youtube. Been to htcevohacks.com too. But seems to be that everyone is rooted only if they haven't upgraded their android version. I just about have every flie that each method said to download as well but I can't get it to work. I need help.

Lastly i was going to just take to a sprint store to let them downgraded it and there is no store in Roswell New Mexico. Just a third party and they aren't any help.

unfortunately you can't root your phone just yet. please read this sticky:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...cant-root-your-gingerbread-2-3-3-evo-yet.html and no sprint store tech can downgrade, just so you know. just be patient root is coming. but read the thread in its entirety. or cut to the end. there is some juicy bits of info there.
