Root [ROM] CM7 Nightlies EVO Community

What kernel are y'all using, I was looking at installing savage zen kernel, haven't decided which one yet though.

I read where some are toying round with kernels ... me I'ma sticking with stock cm7 for 2 reasons
- I'm getting about double (average) battery life off of stock than I did with my stock evo
- After cm7 is final, I assume kernel options will be freely available with more reviews to check out?

36 is up, running great as normal... xda quick update... gps is fixed, and they added support to prepare for wimax:cool:

I flashed 36 last night but my GPS is stuck on 'Seatching for GPS' and my VVM doesn't work =T

Have you tried the wimax ?

edit: Ok I used TiB to restore app + data (back up from a few months ago) and now it works. At first it was kinda jacked up where it the VM wouldn't show up on the list but if you clicked the notification bar "Listen to voicemail'' then you could hear it. After a reboot it seems to be gravy.

Now if only I could get my GPS working it this rom would be perfect!

edit: Now it's perfect. I followed this simple directions

Heres what I did. Using ROM Manager v3.0.0.7 I...

1 - Backed up CM7#17
2 - Restored Fresh EVO 3.5.0.1 Backup
3 - Launch phone dialer and dial ##GPSCLRX#
4 - Entered MSL Number
5 - Rebooted
6 - Restored CM7#17

Map gets position almost immediately and navigator tracks perfectly.

Before the map position was erratic or just plain wrong. The icon in navigation never even moved.

and now the GPS has locked and tracked perfectly. What a sweet ROM.

Have you tried the wimax ?
At xda no one has mentioned gps not working(that I saw) cyanmod himself has an evo and he confirmed that they fixed it with a new kernal... I can only recommend a full wipe/ dalvak etc.. for a clean install.

I've been searching for quite awhile trying to find a good thread on Cyanogenmod 7's rom for the EVO. I know we can go to XDA, but that isn't the case. Being that we're here, why not inform this community of issues we're experiencing and help each other out. XDA is great, but this is the forum I visit most. I'd like to hear from everyone here what they like, hate and wish would change for CM7. I wouldn't know how to update links, but I'll do what I can to provide what I can as information become available. If a Mod wishes to help I'd appreciate it. When I search for CM7 nightly news I see the Incredible has an excellent thread going. Can we get one for the EVO to move along too?

While GApps can be found here:

Here you can find a ***possible fix for GPS*** I haven't tried it yet
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/54633-cm7-nightlies-available-29.html

As per Adidude on androidcentral.com forum

"Everything is working for me now except for the 4g and HDMI which are known since they are not in the firmware yet. I did the workaround for the GPS and it is working for the 1st time since version 7 or 8 for me. Real stable on 17. I do not plan to update until at least the RC now. Since it aint broke why try to fix it?"

Please add whatever you know and have learned. Know that I'm not trying to do anything more than to create a central place for the EVO and the community to find the info we need. I'm currently using CM 6.1.2 because GPS isn't working and Sprints Visual Voicemail wasn't working either. My fix was to download and installed Google Voice and I use it for my voicemails... Perfect alternative to Sprints Visual Voicemail.

I hope this Thread grows in hopes to serve our community well!

here is a more up to date unofficial link on cm7 nightlies if you like.

also if you read ahead in the forum there are reports of the gps still not working properly...
i cant test that build(36) myself because after using the older gps fix i dont have any issues even after flashing multiple roms.

I just switched over from CM6 after having to replace my phone under warranty. Is there no longer an option to hide the notification bar or change the color in CM7? I've been through all the options, so I figure not, unless I'm missing something.
CM7 is in beta testing... my understanding is that when it's all said and done(working good) they are going to put in the final touches such as what you described

lately theres been reports of gps not working for everone after the release of build 36.
I can only guess it depends on certain evos and perhaps user error or software issues.... some are using different kernels and bitching stuff does not work, others are not doing the recommended wipes and complaining it does not work, others are restoring data/apps from backups that over ride some cm7 settings.. then complain they have problems...
maybe I'm just lucky with 0004 hardware and doing full wipes before each install, and the only data I restore from backup is my angry birds game... so far 36/37 ran smooth as silk for me

What's the safest frequency I can overclock to with the default kernel? Also, how can I have the battery icon in the notification bar show the % of battery left?

I set mine @ 1113 setting and enable it at reboot

the battery percent can be enabled only for the lockscreen at the moment.
I have mine in the notification bar but thats from sonnies theme at xda that allows it to happen---

heres a mixer theme... I can not say if it works as i run sonnies theme

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920165

heres sonnies theme... it says for nightly 33,,, i just flashed it on 38 and it still works
