LG Optimus 2X vs. Samsung Galaxy S2

With the release dates in the UK for these two high-end devices likely to be quite close;

LG Optimus 2X 21/03/2011 LG Optimus 2X #LGSTARDOP - eXpansys UK

Samsung Galaxy S2 04/03/2011 Samsung Galaxy S2: what you need to know | MWC 2011

Which one are you going to spend your hard earned cash on? :):)

PS. I've posted this same thread in the Sammy S2 forums.
If that release date is any way near accurate, then I'm very tempted. As I can actually upgrade any time now, I don't really want to wait beyond the end of March though.

I cant quite believe that release date on the S2. The slick Samsung PR machine would have bee in overdrive by now.
The promotional video is both slick and upsetting in equal measures. LOL

I didn't know you made the same thread here as in Galaxy S2 forum. It looks like S2 is generally believed to be superior with better bigger screen, better processor/GPU, 2.3 on board, 1Gb RAM plus 16/32Gb internal memory, NFC etc. The only thing going for 2X is HDMI though Sammy might do something on it too.
However it looks like the OS/driver on S2 seems like not finished yet to unleash its potential performance. So I will wait until reviews/benchmarks on real products come.

Yes on the specs alone the S2 has it. I suppose this is the flip side of LG being first to market with dual core. LG had to make it's decisions on specification before the competition revealed. I do think I prefer the UI on the LG to that touchyourwizzer:) or whatever its called on the S2, it seems a little over the top. The HDMI mirroring could be a crucial advantage for the LG, that and physical size being smaller.
It's a little strange too see 2.3 being sold as a big advantage when we all know its about the individual implementations, quite a few Nexus S owners would have settled for a quality build of 2.2 .

LG seem to be making a big play this year in the mobile arena. The Optimus 3D is no slouch and very innovative even if it could send you blind. LOL

I wanted to post in the S2 forums as well because phones seem to be very partisan.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 does have HDMI, even better than the standard HDMI. A new standard (introduced by Nokia, Sony, Toshiba, Samsung etc.) first used in the Samsung Galaxy S2 to output HDMI and charge at the same time through the Micro-USB connector, it also allows for some data to be sent back from HDMI such as using the TVs standard remote control to also remote control the device.

Is the processor/GPU really better? Check out Anandtech's benchmarks.

Also having 1GB of RAM also doesn't seem to be very beneficial as the Optimus is beating the Atrix in some of the benchmarks to.

Actually, if you read the latest at AnandTech, the Galaxy S2 may not be released with Orion in every region; it may even ship with Tegra 2 in some countries, due to production capacity of Orion being untested for mass market/demand (versus Tegra 2 capacity; more confidence there, I mean).

And I don't think it's the same version of Tegra 2 in XOOM/LG 2X.

I'm pretty sure most people would prefer Tegra 2, given that it beats Orion in almost every benchmark and is much faster at rendering flash (for now).

That's interesting development indeed. I think they still need a bit more time to finish the drivers for Exynos and are using Tegra 2 as back up processor just in case.
Another thing is that I read Samsung is shipping massive number of processors to Apple (A4 and new A5 this year), so their processor line might not have capacity to produce enough number of Exynos for Galaxy S2 this year.

That makes a lot of sense if true. I personally do not trust Samsung anymore but competition is still a good thing.

Just really wish the Bionic wasn't locked down. Might wait for a dual core 1.2 ghz phone. And the MSM8960 Qualcomm looks really competitive to Tegra 2. So does OMAP4.

Exciting (and expensive) times to be a gadget hound.

But I swear every company gets one it two things right and the rest totally wrong.

Great design and screen but anemic battery -- Thunderbolt

Great processor and huge battery but locked down. -- Bionic

Great tech but poor QC and software QA -- Samsung Galaxy series

No joke I think one company should just field all the complaints against their own and their competitors products and relay back to the engineers and testing crew.
