Anything at MWC making you reconsider getting the Atrix?

So far, I haven't heard anything at MWC yet that would dissuade me from wanting to go w/the Atrix. I can't keep up w/all the latest news though, so thought I'd ask if anyone else has heard of something coming out soon w/'new & better' specs.

Samsung has the Infuse coming out, but i think i'd rather have the atrix. Anyone heard of anything else?

The Galaxy S2 is intriguing. Only thing is it lacks HDMI out which is huge for me...

It is also lacking in customer service and support, ask any Samsung customer or research their history. I too thought (hoped) they had changed and have been severely disappointed... your mileage may vary but i seriously doubt it. I really hope for all the future users that the GS II is perfect out of the gate, because if there are any issues they will never be fixed...

Optimus 3D would make me wait if I knew it was coming to AT&T soon. Chances of that happening are super slim, though. No other phone really wow'ed me enough to hesitate going with the Atrix except the Xperia Play, but AT&T lost their chance at exclusivity which blows. Atrix is releasing in a sweet spot for me..., it will be the top of the line AT&T phone till at least the Summer when the iPhone 5, Pre 3, and some other Android dual-core phones arrive. AT&T should be switching on the 4G speeds over the next couple months, which gives us early adopters a taste of higher speed data.

So far the only thing that really has caught my eye is the Samsung Galaxy S II (yes I know Samsung is the rock bottom for updates). I was going to get the Atrix (still love my Nexus One on AT&T).. but the more I read about the Atrix and and looking at the specs.. the one thing that I am surprised is for such a new phone (and quite a few of them that are at MWC/was at CES) is the lack of NFC. We all know that will be coming hard and fast yet only a few company's have embraced NFC.

I am impressed by the speed of the phones etc etc but what I see is what desktops/laptops went thru for years.. is that they are ramming the speed of the CPU but not the substance of the device. I do game..but if I want to do that I will use either my PS3/360/PC..not my phone. I think that now is a time for phones to have some finesse in the phone.. not pure raw power (just to be held up by bus speed like lap/desk tops.)

The idea of the Atrix is great..but I think AT&T/Motorola messed up on the pricing big time.

Galaxy S II has no hdmi output?

Geez, some of these phones... they leave out the small essentials.

I dont wan't to be picky and I know I'm not going to use some of these features all the time but I'd like to have them.

I wasn't too picky about the fact that the Atrix didn't have NFC.... but I'd think for a smart phone today, HDMI output is standard... especially on a highly praised and sorta hyped Galaxy S II.

I was somewhat hopeful that MWC would bring forth more than a few new, cool handsets. So far, almost everything just seems to be and 'updated' older phone, for the most part. The Atrix is pretty much the only phone that seems a bit 'futuristic' compared to most others. The LG dual-core pretty much the same. And both were announced long before MWC. 'Course, it's only Wed (early), so we'll see what today and tomorrow bring.

Also depends on who's buying the phone. Me? Couldn't care less about hdmi. Maybe in the future, but no need for it now. I don't even use hdmi on my ps3. Tried it, but my stupid Sharp Aquos tv HATES hdcp, so that leaves hdmi unusable.

Actually it is what didn't come out at MWC that locked me into Atrix. I've been playing with / developing with / tinkering with the Nokia tablets for 5 years. I could see they appeared to be going to hell in a handbasket for a few months now. So I decided that MWC was my deadline. If no new Meego / Maemo device was announced I was going to shift to Atrix.

Atrix is the best mix of features for what I like to do. Hopefully the hacking community can open up the webtop interface and I can have a hackable platform.

Why doesn't anyone make high end "Open" android phone? If you want the freedom to hack, you get less than cutting edge hardware in the Nexus S. If you want high end, you get encrypted boot loaders.

The Samsung Galaxy SII does have me looking in the other direction. Specs wise it's very similar to the Atrix. There's no release date on it, so that's a moot enough reason as I'm DYING for an Android phone. Been using a BB for almost 3 months and it blows steam into the water and sucks it dry again. I wish both SGSII and Atrix are released at the same time...and to Canada so that I can compare 'em before I buy :D I so wish one of the OEM will announce a vanilla Android phone at the MWC, but that is like wishing them to poop out gold.

Anyone know what US carrier is getting the Optimus 3D? Is it Tmo or AT&T? Checking on the frequency spec it's: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 / HSDPA 850 / 1900 Mhz. I beleive the 1900 Mhz is AT&T.

I read on a site somewhere that they were speculating that it would go to AT&T, but I don't think there has been anything official posted. They were probably looking at the same thing you were and making that assumption.

*if* the phone is US bound, and you know the 3G frequencies, then you know the carrier. AT&T is the one using 850/1900, and tmo uses 900/2100 (I think...).

Well most GSM/HSDPA phones that are made for Europe have a HSDPA frequency of 900/1700 and not 850/1900. Usually those phones go to Tmobile as it's compatible with Tmo. Unless one of the other carriers here specifically has a deal with LG that is not Tmo and requires LG to change the frequencies on the phone to match their network, which is more expensive. AT&T just seems the most logical I guess.

That is true, in the case of the Galaxy S 2 though, it has Quad band UMTS 850/900/1900/2100 with hspa+ so even the european model will be fully compatible with AT&T's UMTS network.

HDMI out, BIG battery and front facing cameras are a must for me. I'm dying for an android phone as well, been on BB for the last 5 years. For work reasons, i'm limited to AT&T, and need a phone this spring. Looks like the atrix is still my top choice. Anything newer w/beefier specs seems to be ~6 months away at least.

Makes my decision so much easier, thanks guys!

to be perfectly honest, there's still too many questions regarding which phones are going to which carrier, when and price.
i've never been more on the fence than now.

on top of that, we still have CTIA to go at the end of March. this is when i think HTC will drop a few dual-core devices, albeit running on ARM Cortex A8 tech.
i'm also fairly certain that more TI OMAP4 devices will come then.
so lots of tech still yet to come out and i'm just as big on performance as the look of a device and all that other jazz.

lets forget about all that for a second, though. what would i want that hasn't been announced?
a Moto device running TI OMAP4 unlocked bootloader on AT&T with HSPA+ support, 800x480 res SLCD and all the bells/whistles. the unlocked bootloader thing isn't going to happen, though.

so i guess, here's looking to HTC to save the day possibly?
i don't think anyone is ever going to make a "perfect" device for any one person

anyway, this is why i'm waiting until about mid May to make a decision

Roze are you planning on getting the Atrix instead of the Nexus S like your profile says? :)

Nothing from MWC has changed my decision. Especially when my AT&T store worked hard to save me $200 on the laptop dock even though I won't be keeping the $45 data plan. All MWC has done for me is cause a rethinking of purchasing the Xoom. I think I'll be waiting for the quad-core tablets. Dual-core is perfect for my smartphone needs and I see the Atrix as being the best available this year. The laptop dock will suit my note taking needs while I wait for more news from N-Trig. When I find the right tablet with handwriting conversion I'll take that plunge (NOT the HTC Flyer, need multiple cores). Meanwhile I'll enjoy my new Atrix and hope for a tethering app to spite AT&T.
