Verizon LG Vortex Docks Work With Optimus V - Updated

I've been poking around Verizon looking at Vortex accessories for the V, and picked up a couple of docks which do work. First, there is a Media Charging Dock the phone drops into in a vertical position with a Micro USB plug at the bottom. The charger cable connects in the back. Verizon claims this somehow launches the Vortex into a media mode...I don't see that happening on the V, but it does provide a nice upright charging cradle/stand.

The car mount from Verizon for the Vortex also works...buy both and get 20% off. The car mount is likely the most stable I've found yet for the Optimus...very solid. On the Optimus V they do not trigger Media Mode or Nav automatically, but they work otherwise.

SPECIAL NOTE: Some owners (see below) of the Optimus V are reporting the cradle triggers the Voice Button on the right side of the phone (others don't), and may require use of a Dremel or similar tool to create enough space to prevent this. Appparently this is a very fine "fit" issue for some phones, as some people have the issue, and others do not.

Thanks for the information. I just bought an Optimus V after being a Loft switcher. Had used iPhones for years until I gave up on AT&T. I have to say Virgin Mobile's service is amazing. After dropping 20% of iPhone AT&T calls, I can say I have NEVER dropped a Virgin Mobile call with over a year of use!

Accessories like docks really make using a less premium smartphone like the Optimus V a much more enjoyable experience. I hadn't found any docks online until I came across this thread. Thanks for sharing.

Well I picked up 2 of these

LG VS660 Vortex Media Charging Station OEM Brand New from the ebay seller. Got them fast

But the only issue is this. It says it brings up the media player. It does not and I don't really care but what is supper annoying is that it bring up the voice command as if you wanted to navigate the phone by voice.
When you get this and cancel it the volume goes down as if you press the volume down button

Also if you press the back button the voice app comes up again. OR any button on the phone!! very annoying.

I suspect this is all because the phone this stand is really designed for has its buttons set for something else and get totally confused with a Virgin Mobile Optimus V plugged in.

I would say stay away from this charging stand. Unless you dont mind it doing all this stuff

That's the oddest thing it doesn't do this on mine. I am not sure what is going on with yours. I have been really happy with it. Your voice search button on the phone must be sticking out slightly farther than mine? I can honestly say I have never used that button ever, don't know why it's there. Now a pause or next song button.

Nothing happens when I put it in the dock at all. Maybe one of your apps is causing this??

Yep...didn't do that with my V either...just sat there and charged away. As far as bringing up the Media Player, I think that's Verizon's imagination, even with the Vortex, which they said would bring up the Car Home app, and also had an onboard power plug...neither were true. I've decided for the moment, at least, to leave my V in its case full time, and returned the Media Dock to Verizon, but I didn't have any issues with it while I had it.

Purchased the Vortex media dock & car dock for my Optimus V based on this forum post. Yes, when I put my device in the media dock the "voice button" rubbed against the side and triggered it. A little light grinding and buffing with my Dremel and it's perfect. Both docks are very nice quality and make my budget Optimus feel like an iPhone 9.

I'm wondering if the following might be the case...if you look at the picture I posted, you can see I didn't try to force the phone all the way down into the cradle...I just wanted it to charge, and it charged in the position I had it in...I was pretty gentle putting the phone into the cradle and didn't try pressing it all the way down. Are you pressing the phone further into the cradle, and it's that that's triggering the voice button???

the vortex cradle works flawlessly with my Optimus T
when docked in the cradle it goses right into clock mode
(options for alarms, play music, photo slideshow, home dim screen) dose not allow usb to be truned on while docked but i am thinking of making a few custom cradles with standard mini usb cables and the pins ground off that should let me turn on usb storage when i want.

I take it these wont work if you have a case on the phone?

Correct. I actually ended up using a $4 business card stand from Staples as my "cradle" and just plug the phone into the charger at night, because I didn't feel like removing the case every night and putting it back on every morning. I miss the pretty cradle and the pretty car mount for the Vortex, but I want the phone in a case and don't want to be taking it off and on constantly. Priorities.

I admit i am cheap, but if anyone else is:

I bought a more or less universal car mount on ebay, mine goes on my vent but could have been windshield or dash. I think it was $4. It works with or without a case on the phone because it squeezes the sides to fit however wide it is.

I also bought a car charger and mic/aux cable. Again, around $4 total.

I set my phone, in settings, so if it is plugged into a charger, the screen stays on.

I have the Car Home app (free). It lets me set 6 big buttons (voice search, maps, whatever you want) and gives me speed, location etc.

When I get in the car I put the phone in the mount, attach the charger, attach the aux cable, turn on car home and go.

All for $8.

I'm open to neater solutions if anyone has any, but this setup has served me well so far.

(When i plug in at night I let the Optimus sit sideways leaning on a basket. The screen stays on since it's charging. I like the clock, low light setting.)

Anyone bought the navigation mount, want to post pics? I want to know if it's long enough, or otherwise I might go with one of the other universal ones TVCCS posted.

The picture of the Verizon navigation mount in the original post is how the V fits...it's a custom fit mount that holds the phone perfectly. The fit is the same as the Vortex.

I bought all of those for my Incredible last summer but my new Optimus fits in them just fine. Got them all on ebay so the links I had would be expired.

The car charger is a micro USB so any one of those you find will work.

The mount has two sides - arms, I guess - with padding that squeeze the phone and a button to release them when I take it out. Because of where the charger plugs in, I put the mount in my vent upside down, so the phone doesn't rest on the little shelf. But the arms hold it tight so no problem. It looks like this one:

Car Mount Holder for HTC DROID INCREDIBLE EVO SHIFT 4G - eBay (item 220752677380 end time Mar-17-11 21:38:11 PDT)

The aux plug is just a male-male headphone jack cable that you can get at radio shack or online or whatever.

If I think of it next time I'm in the car I'll take a picture and post it.
