Is HDMI output locked to phone recorded video only?

Will the Atrix be locked down to only allow video captured on the device to be played back via HDMI? I read this somewhere.

One of the main reasons I pre-ordered is so I can output 1080P videos on the go, but if they are only 1080P videos that I record it renders that part of the device useless, which is a big selling feature for me.

I'm almost ready to cancel my preorder, and would have already if I had a junk phone to hold me over. I am not impressed by the 4G speeds being slower then iphone 4, the locked bootloader, motoblur, not being able to do 1080P recording and playback upon launch, not being 2.3, very high priced accessories, not LTE.

I was super stoked about this, but the negatives are starting to outweigh the positives.

If anyone can help me out with this question it will be greatly appreciated.

That's definitely not the case; there have been many demos of people outputting movies and trailers through hdmi. (720P only now though, 1080P will be enabled with a software update according to moto)

I'm pretty sure we get 1080p output right off the bat. It's 1080p recording that we get in a further update.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Sadly it's only 720P playback as well as recording:

Media
MEDIA FORMATS Android core media formats
VIDEO RECORDING RESOLUTION (MAX) 720p HD (1280 x 720)
VIDEO RECORDING FRAME RATE 30 fps
VIDEO PLAYBACK RESOLUTION (MAX) 720p HD (1280 x 720)
VIDEO PLAYBACK FRAME RATE 30 fps
STREAMING FORMATS AAC,
AAC+,
AMR-NB,
H.263,
H.264,
MPEG-4
LOUDSPEAKER Mono

It should do mirroring out the box. No need for an app. If it does it will be better than the app for the Droid X.

If not, gman can work his magic even better with the hardware in the Atrix.

HDMI Mirroring is actually disabled out of the box, as shown in the build.prop file from the system dump:

ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false

Once we get root we can change that value to "true" and it should work though.

Ya, I read that, it seems pretty easy to root, just wondering, how do I unlock the features after I'm done rooting.

Also, I don't know if I can use that since I'm getting the Bell version of the phone, not the At&t version, so it's possible that rooting through that method won't work for me.
You also do not know if you will need to unlock any features on the phone either.
