Help New to the MyTouch 4G, so some questions

-How do you add your own music from your computer? I've seen a lot of, "Add a "Music" folder and add it there," but I've yet to find it anywhere but the Media Room app. Anything I've missed or can do?

-How can you make custom music contact ringtones?

-Is there a way to set custom mp3 text tones?

-Are there any ways to set specific text tones to individual contacts?

Welcome to the forums! You might want to check out the board for your specific phone (scroll down on the main page to see a directory of all the device-specific boards). Don't be surprised if your friendly neighborhood admin comes along and moves this thread over there. :)

I'm not a MyTouch owner myself, but you can check out the MyTouch 4G board for some answers.

This is how I do it at least....First make sure your phone is set to run as "disk drive" when plugged in to your computer (go to settings > connect to pc > default connection type > and select disk drive). Once plugged in it will open up an explorer window. From there you will see all folders/files on your phone. Go to the "media" folder, in there is where you will put all of your audio/video files. When done unplug your phone and you will see all your added files in the respective places. ie Media Center.

or you can try this....never used it personally. doubleTwist - AirSync

-How can you make custom music contact ringtones?

I use an app called ringdroid. You use the music that's on your phone and crop it to desired length. Couldn't be easier!

This...not that I know of. Maybe there's "an app for that".

Again, not sure about text tones, but for ringtones...go to the contact you want to set the tone for and scroll/look down to the bottom in the "options" category and you'll see "ringtone" set as "default". Click on that and set to desired tone. If you have any custom tones on your phone they will show up in the list.

For the custom mp3 text tone, I'm guessing you're talking about having a song for your incoming text notifications. If you are, go into your texts click menu, click setting, scroll down to received messages, check the "play notification sound", and select the song you want.
I don't know about you, but custom tones don't show up in that list for me. Just the list of stock sounds.

I just uploaded a YouTube video showing how I do it from my phone, although the video quality is low due to me using my old cliq as the camcorder.

weird. So when you opened up the "notification sound" tab it pulled up two sub-options. What did those say? Mine just pops open the list with stock sounds immediately and doesn't ask where I want to pull the sounds from. I couldn't read anything on your screen.

Thanks for the vid...I'd love to figure this out...I'm curious now.

sorry to jack the thread op...it is completely relevant though!

The sub options were basically there because i have two programs I can select ringtones from. The top one was stock sounds, which is default. And the second one was to pick a sound using handcent. Maybe if u go to the market and download handcent messaging then try and select a text notificatiom sound, maybe your music will pop up too. But my music still popped up under stock.

Well, using handcent allows me to pick any of my music as a text tone. But I have to select it through the handcent interface...it doesn't come up like it does on yours. I don't know what you did to get that to happen. Not sure how I feel about handcent yet, ill try it for a bit to make a judgement. Its not like I want a song as a text tone anyhow...but if I decide to make a custom tone it's nice to know I can.

Thanks for the info!

You don't have to use handcent for this process to work, it just needs to be installed on the phone I'm guessing. But yup, no problem.
