Help Why don't more people like the Moment?

I've been eyeing the Moment and have toyed around with it and the Hero at the Sprint store. Why is it that people seem to prefer the Hero to the Moment almost 2 to 1? It seems to me that the specs are better, screen is nicer, and the UI can be customized to be as "pretty" as the Hero. Is there something I'm missing?

On a similar note, how is the custom rom community for the Moment? I know there are a number of roms available for the Hero, but I can't even find anything in development for the Moment. I'm not even clear that it can be rooted yet (definitely want to do that so I can install to the SD card).

Are the issues that such more common than on the Hero? Their forum has quite a few issues listed too.

Ignore that comment. Every phone, including the Hero has issues. The main reason more people don't get the Moment is because most don't even know about it, due to the complete lack of advertising by Sprint.

But it is far better than the Hero, imho. I played with both for several days and love the Samsung. The Moment has a faster processor, physical keyboard, flash on the camera, just to name a few advantages.

Definitely the lack of advertisement. I've told many people I got the new Samsung Moment only to hear them all say "the what?"

I just bought my wife the Moment a couple of days ago. She loves it. Here are a couple of reasons I can see.

1. The Hero was Sprint's first Android phone, which I think garnered more excitement.
2. HTC and Sprint loaded the Hero with cool widgets, not to mention Sense UI.
3. I am wondering if they are not advertising the Moment more due to the battery issue. I use my Hero heavily and it gets better battery performance than my wife's Moment with light use.
4. Even though I think the Moment is a nice phone, I would not carry it due to the bulk of the phone.

the moment is a great phone, the bulk does not bother me at all, it will be even better once the 2.0 software is released, I would not hesitate to buy it.

I've owned both HTC and Sammy phones (not these though), and can say, at least for me, Samsung seems to have a very poor track record standing behind their phones.

I had one in warranty they refused to replace (with anything...), all they would do is reflash it, even though they had done that once and it quit working again after 1 day.

Love my Moment as well, best smart phone I have owned to date (of 3). I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a new phone

I agree that Sprint has done a very poor job advertising it. It also got some less than stellar reviews from sites like Gizmodo and Engadget. That said, I love my Moment. It is my third Samsung in a row, and I really like Samsung phones.

Like i said up there it is lack of advertisement but it is selling descent for having no advertisement, if you look on the sprint website it already has 431 reviews next to most phones that been out a lot longer thats a lot so obviously without any advertisement at all its doing alright

I bought the hero and bought the moment for my wife. If I did not already buy the hero I would not hesitate to buy the moment. It works well. I like the keyboard on it. I am getting used to my hero, but still make mistakes typing with it. The hero can be customized a lot more but almost too much. Nothing wrong with the moment.

That and (at least at my store) the Sprint Store employees are pushing the Hero vs the Moment.

I originally bought the Hero, but returned it after a few days and got the Moment, and I'm happy with my decision.

Having a hardware keyboard was one of my main decisions, and the Hero seemed slower then the Moment.

Also I was getting dust under my screen (a major concern Hero owners are having).

We are closer to getting custom ROMS for our device every day, there already is a custom kernel, it's just a matter of days or weeks before we see a full blown ROM available.

It does have alot to do with the fact that they haven't advertised it at all, I almost went with the Hero, I was able to play with it alot since a friend got it before me and was very disappointed, the Sense UI is kinda cool but overrated for sure.

You think the Moment woulda had far more of a push since it's actually one of 2 successors to the Instinct, which is sprints top phone. They really coulda made it and the Instinct HD the big phones out there, but then again they coulda push the Instinct better over the last year.

What's really sad, and gets on my nerves, is this phone has nearly the same power as the Droid but is never talked about by anyone when people talk about Android phones. Unless you really look into things you'd never know the Moment is even around. But mark my words, once we have 2.1, we'll be at the top of the hill and might even steal the spotlight off the Nexus.

Tapping the icon performs the action completely and is a one step process.

Besides that, HTC's widgets are just bonus applications. I absolutely love the weather app and the homescreen clock is very nice too.

I am sure when 2.1 is released, more customization will be available for the Moment, which I think is a quality phone.

Yeah, having those two options native to the phone is pretty sweet. I had to spend nearly 2 minutes downloading and setting up those two things from the market (Anycut and Beautiful Widgets)! It would've been nice to have a 1-step process to enable that 1-step process, but the screen customization was so limited that it took me nearly 4 steps to enable it! GEEZ!

Also the low screen resolution is a bit of a letdown but not a huge deal. All being said I love the moment. But the blue washed out screen is still annoying me a month later.

I don't like it because I feel that for now, it's like a car company selling you a new, fast-looking expensive sports car with a locked hood, and only the dealerships have the key to tune/repair your engine. By the way, they put an old motorcycle engine in there for now, but go ahead and buy the car and limp it along, and maybe in 6 months they'll decide to let you have a V6.

P.S.- trying to fix your own car means you void the warranty.

Blue washed out screen, low resolution? Do you need glasses? Coming from the Touch Pro which had stellar resolution, the Moment blows it away, so i dont know what the heck youre mumbling about. Only thing i wish for is that things (mostly icons) were a bit smaller like on the TP.

I prefer Samsung phones, yes since the Istinct came out, they have been suspect. But out of all the phones ive had in the 10 years since i got Sprint (SCH 8500, A460, A500, i500, i600, VM680, M610, Istinct) i only had to get one replacement for the M610, and got rid of the Istinct as soon as i could. Other than that, they make rock solid phones that WORK. Getting the TP was the worst mistake i made phone wise. Should have waited for something better.

Its possible as much as id love to see it I highley doubt it unfortunately. They got some awesome phones coming out the nexus 1 is going to have a 1 GHz snapdragon processor. Theres alot of amazing phones coming to android in 2010 ALOT.

I honestly I dont see the blue tint unless I tilt the phone in a real awkward position so its not a problem in my eyes at all. You just cant beat the 16 million colors on the moments screen compared to the hero's 262 thousand colors.

The blue tint is a cold hard fact about this phone. It exists and there are threads and professional reviews all over the net stating this exact flaw. And the somewhat disappointing low resolution is also a fact as stated in the official specs of the phone - 320x480. And the 16 million colors doesn't compare to the 65 million of the droid. I don't need glasses. Despite the fact its amoled, this screen has much to be desired.
