Hi everyone...before someone attacks me...I might be an idiot...lol.

I just recently switch to the Samsung Captivate (Rogers eh!!)...little Canadian joke there.

I want to switch from one text messaging conversation to another, do I have to back out of the one I am currently in to switch or is there a different way. Also if there is no way is there an app that can preform this.

Thanks in advance.

yes, just hit the back key.

Also if there is no way is there an app that can preform this.

I'm not really sure why you are looking for this. Even if there was an app to do this, it would still require ONE button press, which is exactly what you need to do now, hit ONE button. I dont know how you can get any quicker than that.

Hello Paparoach, and welcome to Android Forums.

No, you're not an idiot, and your questions are good ones.

There are many apps in Market which handle messaging differently, and "better" in some users eyes, than the stock app in Android devices.

Do a search under "messaging" and you'll see what I mean.

Actually you have to hit two buttons....the back key and then touch the other conversation. In Blackberry messenger you can just scroll from side to side to switch convos. Just thought i might be missing something.

Handcent is the messaging program you want. I came from BlackBerry (5 years) and love the Handcent program. I goes right back to my list of conversations when I hit the back button.

So I have recently switched to handcent and I went into the stock messaging program and de-selected the auto retrieve and notifications yet I still get a notification when I get a message. So I end up getting two messages for each message now and I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

Did you restart your phone after you changed settings? Also have you checked this:
