Help Can I change the default folder icon somehow?

I want to change the default folder icon. In one thread someone said to use Desktop Visualizer. So I launched it (already had it) and read the HELP. Dev said you cannot change the default folder.

Then someone in another thread said to use BetterCut.

Anyone know if the default folder icon can be changed? If yes - then how?

Thanks
Jerry

If you want a "folder" app that allows you to organize apps and choose a custom icon, try this:

Smart Shortcuts - Android Application on the Android market

Thanks I'm installing it and am gonna try it out!

EDIT: It's EXACTLY what I wanted and more! Thanks!!!

No problem. I can't take full credit because I found that app through someone else on this forum. It's an awesome app and IMO, the best folder app to organize/customize the apps you have on your phone. It allowed me to get rid of a bunch of shortcuts on some of my homescreens and even better, I have them as shortcuts on my Launcher Pro Plus dock!

So, everything I have on my homescreens are widgets that are transparent enough to have the wallpaper more viewable.

Well, thank you for finding it and responding to my post! :p

I love it - it does more than I could ask for. I'm pretty pleased with the icon packs it came with and the ones I found on the app market. However, if you know a good source of more icon packs that are compatible with this app - let me know would ya??

Thanks again!! I appreciate it!

You could actually attach your own pictures as icon identifiers. It's really up to you.

Even though I assigned icons through the app, the ones I use for the dock, I found through the XDA forums.

Go Launcher EX - this home screen replacement is free. Firstly, it does not use the bland folders icon, it uses a smart looking black square as the default icon.
From there, you can change the icon to anything you like, including ones you made yourself, photos, pictures etc.

The only issue, is that there is no option to not display the contents of the folder. The contents of the folder are displayed within the folder icon.

Open Home 6 - offers the same features. Open home 6 now has drag n drop folder creation.

I'm gonna install smart short cuts and see how it compares to Go Launcher EX.

EDIT: Have played with Smart Short Cuts and it just does not come even close to Go Launcher Ex.

First - The file explorer it requires for organizing actual systems folders - is very lacking in features. There is no FTP hosting, or LAN connectivity. I would not give up ES File explorer for this.

Second - Go Launcher Ex simply gives the same abilities, completely - natively. You can create a folder, put anything you like in it...browser shortcuts, system file short cuts, apps, photos, contacts..because it is just a regular android folder....any thing you like... and then, you can set what ever icon you like. So can Open Home 6. ( paid app)

The only issue with Go Launcher EX right now, is that the contents of the folder, the first 4 items inside, will be displayed within the icon you choose - there is no option turn that off yet. I got an e-mail from the Go dev team yesterday to say it will be considered.

Simply - the smart folder is a lot of setting up, organizing and maintenance compared to the ease of using the Go launcher.
