Root Flashing back to stock from a ROM - what's the process?

I know you should use ODIN to flash to stock but I've seen some videos that show you have to use ADB as well.... I've heard elsewhere that you have to turn Lagfix off first...

There seems to be some conflicting information...

If I have a ROM (Cognition, Andromeda, etc) and want to flash to 100% stock again, what is the EXACT process?

I believe this is the one for 1010 builds or later (look under your battery for the build number).

I watched the video on this one last night and it seems pretty friggin sweet!

Do you have to disable anything on the phone FIRST (Like Lagfix, etc)?

Also, maybe it was my PC but I used ODIN 1-click to try to go back to stock on my first Cappy and it bricked the thing - wouldn't power on at all.

I do remember that link you posted before (actually downloaded everything). Before I flashed to Andromeda last night, I tried that method (NOT 1-click) and NOTHING happened - I had all of the drivers installed properly, but clicking start didn't seem to do ANYTHING... I did a little checking and it seems that there is a TON of conflicting (or at least confusing) information on XDA about proper methods.

I would LOVE to use the right ODIN as my 2nd phone completely bricked (not recoverable) when ODIN 1-click froze halfway through... I believe it was a 1010 batch phone.

I'm planning on trying some other ROMs (ultimately) and just want to ensure that I'm doing everything the correct way, especially since my current phone is a 1012 batch.

After extensive reading, this was the Odin that I used on my 1012 and had no problems. I went from stock to Cog 3.04, Odin'd back to stock with THIS Odin, and then flashed Serendipity. Like I said, i did this with no problems at all.

If there is a better Odin to use with a 1012 build, could you point me to the link and download??

There are only 2 versions of Odin; Odin One-Click, and Odin3. Odin3 is nothing more than a tool, compatible with all phones regardless of their batch. With Odin3, you have to load the components in, and then execute the program. When you tell me that you used Odin3 and NOTHING happened, that's a problem between your computer (possibly drivers), your phone, your connection between the phone and computer, and/or your process.

Forget the "conflicting information" and use the instructions in that single post I pointed to @ XDA.

I think where it gets fuzzy for us n00bs is the majority of videos online are almost all using Odin1 click... FWIW, On 2 phones (one DEFINITELY running 1012, the other either 1010 or 1012), I was able to flash to stock using 1-click... When I tried to return my first Cappy to stock (from Cognition) using the same method (1click), it bricked it completely; Dead.

I haven't tried the same process on my current phone to return it to stock (running Andromeda 1.2), but if I do decide to go stock again, I won't use 1Click.

This video on YouTube was the best instruction I've seen. Uses a little bit of command line instead of all those battery/button tricks. I like that much better than button tricks. Samsung Captivate (ODIN 1 Click Stock Firmware Installer)

and it looks pretty sweet! I'm installing it as I type this and will report back the next time I go to use it. As for now, though, I am completely satisfied with Serendipity 5.10 with Speedmod kernel k13c....so I think it may be a long time before I have the want/need to flash back to stock.

Another quick question - Since I won't be using Odin 1-click with my 1012 Cappy, I am wondering - How do you perform a "Master Clear" using the Odin3? It doesn't appear to have that option...

Also, since I'm running a custom ROM currently, I'd read I have to turn off Lagfix; Correct? Is there anything else that has to be disabled to flash to stock from a custom ROM?
