From HTC Eris to Moto Droid X

Its basically the skin that is put over top of stock android. Its sorta like its own OS. Some people like it, others hate it. Now for me I don't see anything wrong with it. There are tons of things that I like that you can do, like resizing widgets and what not. Granted I do love the way Sense UI looks, just for that I am probably going to end up getting the Thunderbolt

Thank freekin goodness, what a horrible 11 months. Finally able to early upgrade. Please tell me I'll be pleased with the Droid X. I know the new 4g whatever is coming any day now ( rep said 24th) anywho i couldnt wait .... Freekin Eris gonna give me a stroke..

You will LOVE the X (I know I do...).

Am I the only one that actually sorta likes Motoblur?

I think Motoblur is fine (although I thought Sense was fine too, lol).

Since you can put custom launchers and such overtop of the vendor's UI, then I don't see what the big deal is (other than having the custom UI slow down the process of being able to release a new version of Android).

Cheers!

Another Eris to X here. I LOVE the X, it is so fast that I don't even know how I dealt with the constant stuttering of my rooted Eris. I have no lags, at all. I want to type? I type and see it at the same time. I want to make a call? It's instant. My X is rooted but has no custom rom, and right now I don't see a need to load one, Motoblur is just fine and I'm just tickled pink.

just made the switch this week and finally set up some initial home screens. Not a big fan of Moto's widgets at all but found the ones i liked. Number one thing i love is my phone rings and no dial lag time.

After I rooted and flashed a new rom my eris actually ran really quick in all other areas. Love the size of the X too though!

Imagine rooting will come soon, saw the one touch but will have to choose a good rom. Right now I am cool with it though.

Thanks for all you responses. I am glad to see Scary Alien here as I may need some rooting help. Havent really looked at the process ...

lol...I am "simply" rooted with Z4root (a different method before 2.2 came out) and would happily bow and refer you to other, much more knowledgable Droid X root folks if you pursue the custom ROM or theme route.

I try to keep up with all of the chatter--planning to one day take the "full" plunge--but I defer to those (way too many to list) with direct and extensive experience ;) (I have made sure that I have grabbed all of the .sbf files as they have become available).

Cheers!

Funny aside: I saw the threads about "Droid X (old version)" re. how they are listed on the VZW web site; went to my VZW page to scout-around and saw/realized that my Droid X had not actually been covered by insurance like I told/asked them to at launch day! I can only surmise that since I used my wife's line to get the early upgrade that they placed the insurance on her phone instead of mine. So, I haven't been covered lo these many months like I thought I was (even though I've been very careful anyways). Canceled her coverage and didn't added to mine.

Nothing could possibly be any easier than Z4Root. The 1st time I rooted pre-2.2 (read: before 1 touch rooting was available on the DX) I was scared shitless. It was far from a perfect process. Now that Z4 is at our disposal I can't find a single good reason not to root. It's taken all the guess work out of the decision.

My Eris still runs just fine. :p I'm here because my business partner got an X. Nice phone but it doesn't do anything more than my Eris.

I want whatever you are smoking/drinking, because it's got to be good stuff for you to believe that. :D

Even overclocked to over 700 Mhz, the Eris was painfully slow, and let's not even get into the dropped calls and subpar battery life.

lol... By the way, erisuser1 figured-out a solution for the dropped-call issue:

[SOLVED] Eris "Undead Call" Problem (AOSP/Froyo/GB) Fixed! - xda-developers

I never did have much of a problem with battery life (and I eventually purchased the 1750mA battery which helped a lot). The X does blow the Eris away in terms of performance and responsiveness though.

Cheers!

I'm getting a DX today and am coming from a rooted Eris. I can't wait. I'm planning on rooting as soon as I get it. I have a couple of questions.

If I use the z4 root method, do I need to flash a ROM before I will be able to over/under clock, wireless tether, and delete bloat apps? These are the features I really care about.

If I do need to flash a ROM to unlock the features I want, I want a ROM that is as close to stock as possible. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
