Choosing a Sprint Android phone for under $100

My girlfriend is looking to get an Android phone from Sprint but is on a budget of $100 or less for the phone itself, which unfortunately rules out the Evo and Evo shift. I have a Droid Incredible and both of us love it, so finding a phone that can have a very similar experience would be great. She needs the phone to be responsive and quick, able to handle angry birds, words with friends, and other popular games without slowing down. Manufacturer interface (sense, touchwiz, etc) doesn't really matter because she will most likely use Launcher pro and widget locker as I do on mine. Above average battery life would be great, at least enough to make it through a day with ease, assuming no heavy gaming, which always kills battery. Any suggestions?

I would recommend going to Wal Mart or Target to see what they offer for Sprint. I got my phone at Walmart and paid $150 less than it was at the Tmo store, but the activation was just like doing it at TMo. (This is not true for ordering from Walmart online, instore has the best deals and you don't contract with "let's talk")

I saw the EVO there a couple of weeks ago for $109 with a new contract or upgrade. Maybe she could get a better phone with just a little shopping around.

Amazon has both the Evo 4G and Evo Shift 4G for $99.99 on a new contract. When it's time to buy a new phone, don't just assume you have to buy direct from the carrier

Thanks for the advice, I didn't realize the price would be that substantially different. I will definitely recommend that, but the extra fee for 4G may be an issue (is it $10/month extra), and if it is, is the Optimus the best 3G phone available? I know its kind of entry level...

EDIT: Also, I am having trouble finding either the Evo or Evo shift for $100 online, I swear I saw the shift for $100 at amazonwireless.com earlier, but now it's listed at $150...

all smartphones on Sprint carry the $10/mo "fee" now.

I just added both to my cart now as a new customer, and they both show up as $99. (From Amazon)

hmm... I did the same thing but as an existing customer upgrading and extending the 2 year contract. I figured that would give the same price but maybe they do favor new customers. So it wouldn't cost any extra to have the Evo over the Optimus on a monthly level? That's good to know.

Hey, my son just got the Optimus S from BestBuy on an upgrade for Sprint. It was absolutely FREE! but the $10 additional data fee also applies to the Optimus as it does all smart phones..
I got that straight from Spring Customer Service (or lack there of) and the guy at BB told me that all the phones are going to that....Just keep that in mind, and take comfort in knowing that Sprint is still tons cheaper than AT&T
