Hey all,

I've been a lurker for a while and finally decided to register myself.

Anyways, my AT&T 2 year contract expires on 05/11/2011 but I really wanna get the Atrix next week when it comes out without incurring any extra charges. I've been a loyal AT&T customer for over 6 years ... does anybody know if I could talk to somebody from AT&T in order to get the full 2 year contract discount when I get the Atrix??

You should be able to get an early upgrade at least two months before your contract is up. Have you tried the AT&T website to see what your price would be? Also, you can dial *639# on your phone to see if you're eligible.

call customer support and beg. if they say no, call again. repeat, repeat, repeat, ask for a supervisor. you'll get it.

1. Call 611 on your phone.
2. Go to cancel account option.
3. When you get a real person say you are seeing what you would need to do to cancel your account like you're clueless. They will ask you why, and say you want a new phone but can't upgrade until (date) so you are going to pay the early termination fee and go to Verizon.
4. Early upgrade granted

FWIW - I am not DUE for upgrade until like October, but when I went into the preorder screen I still qualified for the $199 2-yr upgrade price, it's my impression they are being very lax about the "rules" with concern to the Atrix, I think they know people want it, and they want to have the IT phone again (now that they have to share the Iphone with Verizon) so really, just ask, you will get it.

As i stated above, my contract was up on April 19th. I called ATT, and they said i had to pre-order on line, they didn't have "access"??

I just completed my order online, and had no problems. To verify grandfathered unlimited data plan, the CSR said simply select "Smart Personal" on the order.

I've received my order confirmation, and should hopefully have the new Atrix in my hands next week.

If your 2 year contract EXPIRES on 5/11 you SHOULD be eligible....so check your upgrade option online if you haven't done so. If not, call and call like others mentioned

Exactly, make them think the if they dont give you an upgrade you will switch carriers, thats basically it. This trick also works if you want free stuff on your plan. Ive called Rogers a few times, said how much to cancel my contract? They ask why, I tell them I dont like the options because I can get more cheaper then they doubled my data and gave me an extra 200 minutes.

if the above doesnt work just wait until it comes out in stores. AT&T reps are hungry for commissions and will try harder than a CSR with nothing to lose or gain
