Hi all,

Essentially the problem is the incredibly limited on board memory. To give u a brief history, I bought the phone May 09, ive been installing and uninstalling apps since then and continuously the phone's been giving me low memory notifications, upto the point SMS' wont download due to no space.

So 2 weeks ago I decided to wipe the phone and just install the apps i use alot, nothing fancy.. Dolphin HD, ebay, Handcent etc - was very happy, i had 50mb free, having swapped as many apps as i could to SD card. 2 weeeks gone and im down to 10mb. W.T.Seriously.F

Caches arent a problem as I have app2sd app which deletes it all the time so whaaaats going on?!? So annoyed with this problem , even considering switching phone. Any Desire users with any tips??

I have a million tons of emails, doesn't effect my memory....

Yeah, well it does mine. The default mail client (not the Gmail one) doesn't delete emails, but moves them to Trash. First time I emptied it I gained 25MB.

I'm sure it's a contact issue

Maybe you're correct, but did you really need to post to say "I'm right, you're wrong"?

hi appreciate the quick replies!

How many contacts do you have?

Facebook, Twitter contacts?

i've got roughly 300 fb people and about 50 people on twitter.

Settings\Applications\Manage applications\All
Menu\Sort by size

What are the top 10, & how big are they?
hi,
dolphin HD 6mb
twitter 12mb
adobe flash player 11mb
maps 10mb
contacts storage 9mb
rockplayer lite 9mb
whatsapp 7mb
hancent 6mb
swype 4mb
k9mail 4mb

Do you get a lot of emails? Have you emptied your 'Trash' folder?

i cant even find a trash folder in k9, but seeing as i wiped my phone 2 weeks i dont think i have alot of emails in general, also ive only set up mail with k9, stock sms doesnt have any account setup.

You can root your phone and put the apps on an ext partition on the sd card.
I believe stock froyo only puts part of the app on the sd card, which results in internal memory, even if you move the apps to the sd card the stock froyo way.
^ this would be awesome but ill have to give the typical noob reply in that it sounds really technical. im sure after reading 10 online manuals i could do it but i just dont have the time. i might look into someone doing it for me, thanks.

There is a known "memory leak" within HTC people that I have seen affect some people. Spile had 96MB "contact storage" for not many more contacts than that.

After clearing data and resyncing contact storage, he got it down to 15MB or so.

Settings>manage apps>contacts storage.

What are the sizes? If its 20MB or less, its probably not the issue

hi,
dolphin HD 6mb
twitter 12mb
adobe flash player 11mb

rockplayer lite 9mb
whatsapp 7mb
hancent 6mb
swype 4mb
k9mail 4mb

Looking at that list, you've probably not done this:
Lorin Bute - Blog - How to force apps to move to the SD card onFroyo
Maybe your 'app2sd app' doesn't work as well as you think?

If you do, you'll be able to move much more to the SD card :)
For example, Dolphin HD is currently using 2.74MB on my phone, Swype 1.69 MB etc. Give it a go and report back!

Also, consider uninstalling the flash player update - works fine for me with the previous (standard) version & an extra 11MB of space can only be a good thing!
