Proper/Best way to back up before a factory reset?

Hey all, just wondering if there is a good or proper way to back up my apps before doing a factory reset?

I'm not too worried about contacts as that should be saved ala google just have a lot of apps (all free) And hoping i dont have to go back and re-dl them all.

Make sure you have the backupmysettings box checked before doing the factory reset and then when you sign back into your google account it will reinstall them all for you. It takes a little bit like 10 minutes or so for them all to download so be patient and refrain from visiting the market until you get the notification in the staus bar that xxapplications have been reinstalled.

If you download something in the market before your apps get redownloaded it messes everything up right? Because when I did my factory reset because my phone locked up I went to the market and it had a list of all my apps in downloads, but when I tried to manually download one of them the entire list disappeared.

Thats correct (imo).I had the same type of thing happen to me, so it best to wait until all the apps are reinstalled before visiting the market. In fact i dont do anything on my phone until the apps are re-downloaded, be patient, then you can start setting it back up. I have about 30 apps installed and it takes about 10 minutes before I get the notifications in the status bar that is completed. The more apps tou have the longer it is going to take.

Good to know. I hated having to redownload all the apps manually.

Instead of backing up the SD card, can you just remove it from the phone and THEN do the factory reset using only the internal storage? or does factory resetting require the SD card in place?

I have never removed my SD when factory resetting. In fact most of the time I HAVE to have the card present for a Nadroid restore. It is always a good Idea to keep the SD card backed up anyways with apps like Slacker formatting them at will...

I dont see any harm in just removing the card if you want though...

LOL , Slacker is a radio app that was formatting peoples sd cards randomly resulting in the loss of everything. I was able to recover about 50 or so MP3's but lost everything else of real importance cause lets face it I could care less about the MP3's I wanted all my pics and documents back. That was my point as to the importance of backing up the SDcard regularly. I dont know of an apps for backing up the SD card. I just mount the card and drag and drop to my laptop a few times a week.

Here's the other thing I am wondering about. Are apps forced to use the SD card to store data, or do they get some room for themselves on the main memory? I have a few apps that store some very small amounts of data but I wouldn't want to lose that either.

Not a big deal, and I suspect they are forced to use the SD card (otherwise you'd run out of memory) but curious nonetheless.

well i took the plunge and did the hard reset.....and i have to say im happy so far. much more responsive and faster than before. i have have the 2.1 launcher app running very smoothly. only problem is......MY BEAUTIFUL HOME IS GONE!!! I paid an expensive $1.45 for this app as well. anyone know how i can restore it or get my money back?!?!?!

Also, i tried to let the apps download automatically, however it was stuck on the first one for like 10 min and wouldnt budge! so i canceled the download and started dling the essential ones from the list. I guess i wont be getting any automatic installs this way but I kinda prefer it.

Beautiful Widgets has been kind of an odd battle. The dev received cease and desist orders from HTC so the app was pulled from the market. Shortly after that app was reworked with a new look and reposted in the market and very shortly after that it was pulled again because HTC hadn't approved the new version. Word is that the developers , level up studio, washed their hands of it and says its not worth the trouble. It is no longer available in the market. If you have the APK backed up you could restore it. I am guessing you dont or you wouldnt be asking. Also I suppose you could email the dev about a refund but its not even worth the time it takes to write the email for $1.45 imo...

I understand what your saying but where is that hot dog going to be this time tomorow?? And how many days were you able to use Beautiful Widgets before today? Most likely the Widgets were the better investment.

Did you use the full Beautiful Home widget with the flip clock? If so peep Weather Widget.
