Root HELP!!! Gingerbread ROm Related!!!

Yesterday i deceided to flash gingerbread to my eris. I used ROM manager from the market to flash the ROM because my trackball lno longer scrolls down, therefore i cant boot into recovery to change ROMS. anyway i flashed gingerbread V6, and it was a fail. my eris stayed in the android boot up screen with the skateboarding androids for HOURS, so i did a hard reset and that got it working, i have no apps (that i paid for or downloaded from the market). I did a back up but now i wold like to flash xtrasense back and i can't because i dont have the market app and my eris moves so slowly on this rom (cant overclock, no apps) can i flash xtrasense onto my phone from a computer, if so how?

Well, there is a version of Amon's Recovery that no longer requires a trackball - I would eventually get that installed if I were you.

Did you not run a Nandroid backup before you tried to install GSB?

It really sounds as if you did not read the instructions for flashing GSB, because in order to flash GSB you need to, minimally:

- download GSB and the mini-gapps package on the opening post of the thread
- wipe data/factory reset
- flash gsb
- flash gapps

I am guessing that you did not flash the google apps package, and I am wondering if you did a data wipe as well?

Anyway, it may be included with the gapps, but there is a possibility that ROM Manager is an app on the phone with a default GSB install. You should be able to run that to restart with Clockwork and run a restore (hopefully you have one.) Otherwise, you can try to download gapps on a PC and copy the file over to the SD Card (if you did not already download and copy it to the SD) and try flashing GSB again.

Rom manager made all back ups and stuff. There wasn't much I could really becuase I wasnt able to use the recovery menu. Thats why I used Rom manager. I did a factory reset which sent me to the recovery menu (weird) so I just pulled the battery out. Im not sure what to do now. Even with the app you suggested I have no idea how to put on my phone because this rom doesn't acknowledge being pludded into a computer so I cant use it as a disk drive.

You said that you installed GSB - it has ROM Manager as an app as part of the install. You should be able to access it and start Clockwork from there, and then restore your backup.

Here are a couple of other pointers which you can make use of.

1) You can always transfer things from the phone to your computer via e-mail.

2) If you have Amon_RA recovery on the phone, you cat "boot" into the ClockworkMod (ROM Manager) recovery by: moving a copy of the /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery-update.zip file to the /sdcard/ folder, and then "flashing" that ("recovery-update.zip") file. I believe that GSB installs a file manager, yes?

This would allow you access to the ClockworkMod menus, and from there you can restore your Clockwork (ROM Manager) nandroid backup.


Note that if you insist on using ClockworkMod, it is mandatory that you learn how to check your downloaded .zip files to see that they are not truncated or corrupt, as (unfortunately) ClockworkMod recovery does not perform such critical checks for you. This can be done with the "jar verify" function of Scary Alien's (free) market app "AFV (Android File Verifier)"

thanx for all the help, i was able to get on 4shared and download the apps i needed (set CPU, rom manager) to get rid of this rom lol, and i have sucessfully rebooted and flashed my phone back to xtrasense...quick question though...what's the most stable and complete rom of gingerbread for the eris out there?

When I asked the same question, the answer I got was GingerShedBread (GSB).

If you are going to install a GB ROM, make sure that you read the install instructions fully.

Now that you have a stable ROM, you may want to go back to that new Amon's Recovery and follow the instructions in scenario 3. You can use the gscript app already in xtrSENSE, if you are on one of the latest versions.
