Anyone else slightly concerned about their handset?

With the showcasing of the HTC Incredible S, and the Thunderbolt, does anyone feel that their phone may be outdated or inadequate? I ask this because we've missed the 2.3 update, Gingerbread as of now. And there's Sense 2.0 on devices like the HTC Desire HD, but also newer handsets getting Sense 2.1 (in Europe)

With the Thunderbolt being released soon, and then eventually the other devices being released, how likely is it that as Incredible owners, we may not get the new Sense UI? (2.1) Are we more likely to be left in the dark like Hero owners?

I can't complain about my phone, I do love it, but some minor cosmetic changes would make me appreciate my phone in a new way.

I'm not missing out on anything. I can load up CM7 for Gingerbread or run one of the Desire Z ports for the new sense. The Thunderbolt is just a non-innovative Evo refresh for Verizon. The Incredible S is just a small, non-innovative improvement over the Incredible. See the pattern here? HTC will eventually have to release dual core phones in order to compete with Motorola and the other Android smartphone manufacturers.

We haven't missed ANY update. NOBODY has gotten a 2.3 update. The Nexus 1 hasn't gotten it yet. And I don't think any phone has been updated to Sense 2.0.

Oh, and I've been running Gingerbread for 2 weeks now, thanks to CM7.

^^^This!!
Not only has nobody gotten a 2.3 update, but the current rumors are that nobody will and that 2.3 is being displaced by 2.4.

Every piece of tech you pick up is outdated the minute you open the box.

This. The way the electronics world works, it is just a given that any piece of hardware you own is by default outdated.

After my days in Grad school slavering over the latest video card for PCs and gaming and such, I quickly got over the fact that I didn't have "The latest and greatest".

Phones have a product cycle of 6 months or so (and so did the video cards). It is nuts to think you're going to keep up.

I love my phone, and figure that I will love it for the entire 2 year contract. Then I will get a new phone, and love that one.

I REFUSE to be a slave to the product cycle, or feel that my product is in any way inferior because the new phone on the block has doodad 2.1 while my phone only has doodad 2.0.

Does your phone work and do the stuff you want? I thought so.

I really wonder if the people who are boohooing the lack of a Gingerbread update even know what features Gingerbread will add.

I honestly dont see anything out there right at this moment thats worth the money that itd take to upgrade to it. My incredible is serving me very well so far, and as others have noted, its not like the new phones are on a different OS level even. By the end of the year that'll probably change, and at that point its only a few months until i can get upgrade pricing.

I actually am surprised at how long the Incredible has stayed at or near the top of the list of best phones on the market. It's been on the market about 10 months and is only now being really surpassed (and not by a lot).

This, a thousand times this. Even if you look at the upcoming phones, the only real upgrades over the Inc are the dual-core chips and 4G radios. The former is only a huge deal if you're into gaming, and the latter only matters if you live in a 4G area. Otherwise, the upcoming phones are pretty incremental upgrades over the Inc: next-gen versions of existing processors (but running at mostly the same speeds), slight RAM bumps (in SOME cases), and slightly bigger screens.

Especially when you consider the huge leap from the OG Droid to the Inc (and in only six months!), the upcoming generation of phones should hardly make us Inc owners feel inadequate.

I don't care about the OS or dual-core. What I do want is the front facing camera and a larger screen. When I got my Inc back in November, I was torn between this, the DX, and the Fascinate. I didn't like how the Fascinate had GPS problems and lacked an LED notification. So it was down to the Inc and the DX. I didn't like the DX because the screen looked so washed out. So I picked the Incredible. Why did I upgrade in November? I was SO sick of my Eris that I wanted to get something new asap!

I'm still very happy with the Incredible...but I do have an upgrade coming up in July so I'll switch to whatever's good then.

Totally agree. My Incredible's speaker sounds terrible, I barely want to use it around people it is so bad. I know I can take it back and get a new one, but I do not want an SLCD one, I saw one side by side with mine and there is a difference. I am considering the Thunderbolt because of the larger screen, which I like. I use skype a lot when at home, but use on the go would be a lot better also. I, however, don't want to upgrade to the Bolt and then come July find out there is a dual core phone with all the trimmings. I want to hold out until July, but the Thunderbolt is doing it's job and making me want it.

Chances are, the certified like-new replacement they send you will be amoled. If not, you're not bound to accept it. Just send it back and request another. I had the same concern. But there's no reason to be locked into a defective handset. Customer service over-nighted an amoled replacement that's perfect!

Carp, I'm still using old school thingamajig 1.7

I'm running nightlies of doodad 2.8. Just about everything works (besides, who needs to make phone calls anyway. And the screen flashing/blinking isn't really that big of a deal...only 3 people have been hospitalized for seizures.). I'm getting a 3,000,000,000,032 Quadrant score, compared to only 2,999,999,999,994 on 2.7.
