I'm fairly experienced in the works of electronics from exposure and passion (as opposed to formal education). It is a very generalized experience focusing mostly from the perspective of a PC gamer.
My knowledge includes building a PC from scratch, basic hardware use, e.g. printers; networking, i.e. vague understanding of IPv4, UDP, TCP ports; and a sprinkle of linux (hardly worth mentioning). I'm practically A+ certified (aka computer janitor), but I'm actually not. I say that 'cause I passed some mock tests back in high school. As far as 1337/underground software use is concerned, I'm maybe just a notch above script kiddie (this isn't to suggest I'm big on hacking, but I've been exposed to "the scene"). In reference to scenes, I'm also vaguely familiar with the Usenet scene.
I also have experience in soft-modding the 360's Samsung DVD drive to play burned games (aka backups), burning copy-protected CDs as PC backups, jailbreaking my iPod touch 2G, using CycloDS to play Nintendo DS (NDS) backups, and now, rooting my LG Optimus V Android phone from Virgin Mobile (VM). This is not everything that I'm capable of, but you should have a pretty good idea of where I can stand in terms of my handling of computers and electronics.
I've lurked this forums for help here and there, but now I've created an account in search of finding a way to use a VOIP service over Wifi in order to make free calls to landlines; i.e., doesn't use my limited minutes. As I understand it, there are plenty of VOIP services to make calls to other VOIP services, but I'm having some difficulty doing so for VOIP to landline.
I had made the mistake of believing that Google Voice would be free for such a purpose, but alas, I had been mistaken. It actually does use up minutes, but it masks my calls to (seemingly but very probably not truly) random numbers that Google apparently owns which then route my calls elsewhere as directed by me.
I am of enough technical knowing to believe that it is possible to tunnel my 3G connectivity to my phone's Wifi, thus making it (my phone) believe that there is wifi wherever there is 3G connectivity. I'm sure a lot of you can understand where I'm going with this, but this part is more of a curiosity than a objective that I'm certainly a point to complete; i.e. VOIP to landline calls from Android. This is really because I understand that it is probably against VM's policy, but for the record, I signed no contract, so it isn't against mine. For the record, I'm also faintly curious about turning my phone into a wifi packet sniffer, but I say "faintly" because I know it's going to involve a lot of linux and is highly suspicious and I really don't care all that much about doing it (I just figured it could be worth mentioning).

I'm a PC gamer driven by free stuff (namely producing and using backup games), and it made me pretty damn good at using and manipulating electronics to do it (for a layman anyway). I'm here because I want to make free calls to any phone from my LG Optimus V Android phone from Virgin Mobile.
