Can I use the HDMI out when I'm playing games or watching netflix?

If its anythign like the Galaxy S i shouldnt see why not, when you connect the galaxy S to TV it basically transfers whats on the screen to the TV, so in theory should then display whatever you have on the screen at the time (ie a game) to the big screen.

Ya, but you know how Motorola is, they like making good phones but crippling the software on purpose.

Anyways, iirc, the Droid x had an hdmi out, but it didn't allow mirroring, I'm hoping we don't run into the same problem with this phone, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Usually its the carriers decision not motorola's fault for all the crippling.

In the recent system dump for the Atrix, it looks like HDMI mirroring is disabled. Its in a file that you would need root to enable.

Whats funny, HDMI mirroring is listed as a feature of the Bionic..but not for the Atrix.

Looks like the crippling you mentioned might be spot on..

Well, I live in Canada, and the Canadian companies don't ask for as much crippling as AT&T, and yet Moto still does it for phones here (not blocking side loading though). So I am blaming Moto on this one.

Anyways, after I root the phone, how would I enable the mirroring feature? I know how to root (it looks quite easy), but I don't know how to change a feature.

Ok, so someone on the XDA forum tried changing:
ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
to
ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=true

And this was his result:

"Well that worked while the phone was booting. After it detects the HDMI cable it goes back to blank and then lets me choose between doing nothing and Entertainment Mode and none bring back the mirror. It was working fine tho. While it lasted..."

HDMI Out - xda-developers

It seems that motorola really does wanna butcher their phone.
