Help Battery only charges 30%

My HTC Hero is about 15 months old. I had no problems with battery life or charging to 100% capacity. Now, it will only charge to 30%. I tried draining it completely, removing battery, restarting, charging while off, charging while on, etc.

It strikes me as odd that suddenly this happened. Usually batteries die gradually. I know I can get a new battery, but I am out of the country for 1 month, making that difficult.

Any ideas?

It does sound like your battery is toast. Just a question, but are you using the A/C adapter to charge it or are you using just using your USB cable plugged into a laptop or something?

It might just be the USB port is not delivering enough juice, but that is likely not it. If you were rooted, you could wipe the battery stats and try recalibrating it to see if that helps, otherwise I am not sure.

You say you are out of the country...is it possible that you need a charger designed for the electric system in that country? Did this 30% only charge issue coincide with you leaving the country?

It did, but my USB to outlet charger takes the higher voltage. I also tried my laptop USB port.

I have a new Duracell mini usb portable battery pack. I thought that might have screwed my phone up because I used it on the plane. I charged that and plugged it into my phone and the phone is charging well beyond 30%. Maybe my usb cable is bad? Seems odd that it would make the charging light go on and go to 30% if the cable was bad.....

What is your setup? By that I mean, what ROM and what recovery are you running?
