Hello All,
First, I am new to the forums and brand new to Android. Been waiting almost a year to bump from my bb to the Evo 4G (Sprint) and I am so pleased to have a phone that I can actually utilise fully. I have actually only had a few days to play around with her before curiosity got me thinking, can it go faster? Do i want to tether without paying a hefty cost? Can I overclock so I can look at fb faster?

I successfully rooted my evo and installed Cyanogen's stable 6.1.2 Supersonic. Had a little trouble due to gf distractions with the rooting, but now feel confident in the mechanics.

So now what? I lost all my contacts, (have them backed up) but I kinda liked the link feature that came with the stock phone to merge everything with fb. The weather app isn't working. I have read that GPS and 4G are gone along with HDMI (which I was looking forward to using with a new flatscreen).

Did I make the wrong choice with rooting? Did I make the wrong choice of ROM? Am I just too douchy to root and go back to playing angry birds and fb?

Just throwin it out there,
MotoRyan

i think you might be on the wrong rom. i have not tried any aosp roms (non-sense roms) yet so i'm not familiar with your issues with cm. these roms are based not on htc sense. so that means that 4g and hdmi will not work. unless you are trying out the beta versions that are out there that has a working 4g. however, i would recomend flashing some sense roms and see if they are to your liking. try mikfroyo 4.5 or myn's warm2.2 rls 5. those are the best sense roms out there in my opinion. they are extremely stable and also really fast especially mikfroyo 4.5

also did you do a full wipe before flashing cm? and always make nandroid backups before flashing anything as well.

Thank you for your response ocnbrze! I was worried... This evo has already caused a couple of fights with me and the gf! I was never one to 'play on the phone' before! But I was inspired after reading hunterbeav's Hi my name's Jim and I have a Rooting Addiction.
HA! I think i need to join their group. After pulling an all nighter, I downloaded the new mikfroyo 4.5. Already flashed it and tested it some. AAAAAHHHHHHH :Sigh of Relief:::
It's like the new Evo i bought a few days ago, but blazingly fast.
If I called myself out as a newb, it was worth it to anyone looking for something new. Take my experience, it was worth the fight with the gf, and 10+hrs on the computer, including learning some new linux tricks, to have the phone I wanted all along.
I guess I should post some updates with the mikfroyo 4.5 ROM.
Thanks,
MotoRyan

:: I purchased the phone 2/9/11. Sprint Network. First Auto download (by sprint I assume) was 2/10/11. Some minor tweeks to sms keyboard was all I noticed.
After reading, reading, and reading some more, I decided to root. I figured, since I was already running android 2.2, and the phone was brand new, I didn't need to go hunting for new radio, kernel, and etc. dls.
Before rooting, I did a full backup with mybackup. Also dragged everything to the 'cloud'. Then used the full sdk toolkit and unrevoked. then performed a full nandroid, and complete wipe. First time around didn't clear darvik cache. After a few go-arounds, wiped fully system, then cleared darvik cache, and installed mikfroyo 4.5. AWESOME

LOL i know what you mean. i just flashed a new rom [ROM][ACS] Koni's ELITE Series I - (ES1 - 02/04/11) - Beauty, Say Hello To Speed!!! - xda-developers. it is one that has mikfroyo's frame work. it is also much lighter in size as well. i like both roms so far. not sure which i want to use as my daily yet. but anyway happy flashing!!

Also, in case you didn't know, you can flash a rooted stock ROM. Phone pretty much looks and feels like stock, but you have all the abilities of a rooted phone. The stuff you listed in your OP:

I have actually only had a few days to play around with her before curiosity got me thinking, can it go faster? Do i want to tether without paying a hefty cost? Can I overclock so I can look at fb faster?

doesn't require a custom ROM. A couple of apps made for rooted phones will do the trick (setCPU, wifi tether).
