Help Help with new OTA?

I just got the latest OTA, and I am absolutely HATING it.

The lights on the capacitive buttons are driving me nuts, I might get used to them in normal lighting situations, but I doubt I ever will if I'm in the dark(which I do tend to be); and even worse I can't even mount my freakin' phone!

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the timer for the button lights, and get my phone mounted again? Or even just undo the update altogether?

I hate it too! Had the phone plugged into my laptop to charge overnight. Woke up at 4am to a bright bedroom instead of a dark bedroom. Saw the update installed message, cleared it off, went back to sleep. In the morning I also noticed my laptop had a message that it installed some new Samsung drivers.

I don't see any new display settings anywhere

I'm sorry, but I see statements like these far too often lately. TBH, yes, there are some people who might root and still have not done so- But at this point, I think a fair majority of the people who are both here and who have not rooted yet have chosen not to root for one reason or another. Most of these reasons being very valid reasons. so please... please, lets leave off on the generic "you should root, lol" typoe statements. It is really not very encouraging to those of us who have chosen for our own VALID reasons not to root.

Unfortunately, we only usually hear about the fails people have made rather than the success stories.

I think those of us who have sucessfully rooted and Rom'd sometimes forget how much learning curve there can be. Even more important are the things that can easily go wrong, like deleting some bloatware or changing a build.prop that will brick or cause an OTA to fail. As great as rooting is let's not forget that there are, what, 200,000 new Android activations every day. Lots of noobs out there. Let's not push them to the dark side too quickly or we risk tarnishing Android and frustrating people. Imagine if we had to live with iOS instead if Android was shunned.

True.. but I think i'd be much more frustrated having to deal with stock. But that's just me.

heres the thing. within the confines of the stock dl09 oe ea28 (the 2 versions we have received) there is no way to change the capacitive buttons timout period. I don't know if the rooters have a way or not, but I have just learned to hold a thumb over the lights at night.

Umm... normal woman size? lol. you don't want to keep you rthumb actually COVERING as in touching the whole thing... just when you are holding the phone, keep your thumb in front of them... not touching at all.

that said, my thumb (the whole thumb, all the way to the second knuckle) fits perfectly over the capacitive buttons. they aren't that big. they ARE bright, though. and my husband sometimes tells me that even if the light is no longer in my eyes, it is still in his. But... this is the best fix I have found short of going to the root side... which I still prefer not to do.
