Help My EVO has become extremely slow...need some help

OK, so got my EVO at the beginning of Feb/2011. IT was fast - responsive - love it. Then I started customizing it. Added Launcher Pro Plus, Smart Shortcuts and of course downloaded a bunch of apps.

Now it's become so slow that I'm beginning to become very frustrated.

Symptoms:

-When I unlock the phone, it takes 5-7 seconds before it will open anything I tap.
-When I start to compose an SMS, type in a URL, type in a Google Search, the keyboard sticks on the first letter for about 3 seconds and then catches up.
-When adding a application shortcut or widget, it takes - and this is has been timed- 15 seconds for the list of apps or widgets to appear. I stare at a black screen for 15 seconds.
-Sometimes - seems at random - when I tap an app sometimes I have to tap it 2x or 3x to get it to open.

I'm extremely frustrated :(and do not know where to start in remedying this slow down.:thinking:

Can anyone help??? I'm seriously thinking about just returning to the default HTC Sense configuration - but then I'd loose all my goodies.....??

Oh - and my phone is NOT rooted.

Thanks!
Jerry

im sure youve tried this, but im throwing it out there any ways. go through and clean up and apps you dont use. once you do that pull the b attery out for a few seconds and reboot see if that helps.

Yeah I did that this morning and still no luck. I just uploaded a screencast I made showing you guys the lag between selecting an APPLICATION shortcut and the actual list of apps showing up. Check it out here- it's an mp4 file - just under 1MB.

OH and I've turned off all animations - but I do have a live wallpaper - however it's still slow if I chose a non-live wallpaper. FYI

Unfortunately I believe the only real answer is to do a factory reset. That is what Sprint will recommend you do if the battery pull doesn't work. After you do a factory reset, you can be sure whether your phone actually has a problem or if it was just some combination of apps that bogged down your phone.

Yeah that's what I was kinda thinking. I have MyBackup Pro, so I have all my data, photos, music, and apps backed up to my account online - so I can reinstall everything if I need to. But I think doing a factory reset and then adding apps one at a time would be the only way to figure things out. UGH. I didn't want to do this tho. I was hoping someone would say "You are running low on memory no wonder your phone is slow, etc."??

:(

EDIT: There's got to be something else at work here. Maybe it IS because I am low on space on my phone? Maybe I should see which apps are hogging CPU cycles and eliminating them first?

I would also recommend a factory reset. I bought my Evo in November and in the last couple of weeks I lost the typing sound when sending a text and my audible selection quit working. I was really nervous about the reset, but I backed everything up and did it. I used the "how to fix froyo" guide everyone recommended. I followed it step by step. It worked like a charm. My evo is working great and its faster. I am also adding my apps back one at a time. Why wait, if you are sick of how your evo is running just do it. You will be glad you did. Good luck...:)
