Hold Power button and 9 on the keyboard until the phone reboots and you will boot into Downloading mode.

Hold Power button and R on the keyboard to reboot into recovery Mode.

Now that I have figured out how to boot into recovery/download modes I'm really tempted to try out this kernal flash that they do with the Galaxy S. However I'm not sure if I'm willing to try this out and risk bricking the phone.

Yeah I saw this before too, didn't know about download mode. That's good to know. Though with that clockwork recovery, you can back up your phone. And if in case shit hits the fan, recover it to the previous state. I had to do that countless times when experimenting with my LG optimus. So its really just a matter of getting clockwork to work on the phone. I may be willing to try this, because if I brick my phone, lol i'll warranty swap it myself when i'm at work.

its the same kernal on the indulge...would it brick if it didnt work?

That I dont know, and flashing might work or it might not work.

To minimize the risks of bricking the phone, we would need someone that knows what their doing with the kernal and can compile a custom kernal for us from the source.

If you were take the source code for the kernal in the indulge, modify it to include the clockwork and compile it. There would be a good chance of success.

flashing a kernal thats for another phone, I have no idea what would happen. But if it didnt work, the kernal has the recovery boot mode so I dont know how you would be able to reflash after a failed attempt.
