I must be confused about something. Doesn't CM require a custom kernel? And if so, then are they working towards the same thing as the moto freedom project or whatever it is? I'm confused as to how CM can happen on the dx without the custom kernel part. And if not, then what is its extra appeal over the current offerings? I'm unfamiliar with CM.

Thanks but that doesn't really answer my questions. Those are just the updates on progress. I'm looking for more of a comparison and contrast of the two ventures.
Wow Im amazed by the negativity in this thread. The guy is working to get what is widely considered the best android rom working on your phone. Sounds like something to celebrate to me. Yea maybe it will never completely work out but wont you be happy if it does? To each their own I suppose.

I agree. I hope my post didn't come off sounding negative. I'm just inquiring. these guys are devoting their time toward something that doesn't benefit themselves (maybe marginally if they use it as a personal device). I think everyone is appreciative of their efforts, just apprehensive to get their hopes up. We've had a lot of close calls lol but if you aren't concerned with the progress the devs are making towards this stuff, just avoid these topics. Don't make our community come off sounding like we don't care and don't want their help. I know the majority of people here welcome every addition to the rom library for the DX

+1
some of us are anticipating it, however we have been through this all before and it never pans out, however this alias guy is working on it, has gotten farther than anyone ever has, and he doesnt accept donations because he does this as a hobby, thats what you call a stand up guy. AND HE IS ONLY 15!!! or 16, he is young thats all we know haha
Exactly. I've been in the droid x forums before release. I remember when it was still the shadow and there were like 3 threads here. The community has come a long way since then. Finding out about the efuse, and the locked bootloader. They thought that themes would be the closest we ever got to roms. Then came FlyX. Lol I never doubt these developers. They're too stubborn, err I mean persistent haha

I can see that they've chirped at each other just a little bit but does that mean they are working together on freemymoto?
CM actually has quite a team of developers working together. It's quite possible he has alternative methods to get to the point where he is on a DX build-CM7 using his in house team.
Or Maybe its a joint venture??
Pardon my ignorance but I am curious as to the answer...
I am excited for all the breakthroughs regarding the DX though I realize there is still work to be done. Cracking the efuse means maybe I buy the Bionic... Locked bootloader means I buy the T-Bolt. I am definitely cheering for this thing to be cracked...
Maybe? I would think that custom kernels wouldn't have a huge impact on improving the DX battery life because we can already undervolt. That was a big thing in other phones custom kernels I thought. But maybe it can cut down on the processes running in the background. But chances are that it will depend on the rom developers and what they decide to implement in the new roms featuring custom kernels. Anyone can add (or subtract) from this if I'm too far off base.
That's something that you give up by having a smartphone. If you kept the screen off and only used it for emergencies then I bet it would last a while. The dx gets pretty good battery life on the most powerful smartphone os available.

Run liberty or apex. Seems most people get better battery on apex (i didn't) but ymmv. Turn off auto brightness. Set the brightness to the lowest setting. Use quick setting to turn off your mobile data when not in use. Use wifi over 3g when available. Use quick clock advanced to undervolt your phone to the bare minimum vsels. Set some processor clocking profiles in the overclock app for things like screen off and when your battery gets to a certain level. Enable sysctl in liberty settings. Don't touch your phone if you don't need to. That's about everything I know to squeeze the most out of a battery.
