I think this is the end of the X10 for me... [UPDATE: CAN I REPLACE THE DAMAGED PART?]

So my X10 suddenly stopped getting a network signal, so I contacted my carrier (TMobile UK) and they told me to send it in for repair. So I sent it for repair 2 weeks ago and patiently waited.

Now I have got a call telling me that the phone cannot be fixed under warranty because it has damage to the main board. They also said they cannot give me a quote because it would cost more than a new handset.

So it looks like it is the end of the X10 for me. I will still pop on from time to time

Adios

EDIT (27/02/2011): DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO REPLACE THE PART SHOWN IN THESE IMAGES? IF SO WHERE CAN I GET IT?

THANKS

you want to ask for proof of what they are on about with the damage to the main board. I had this with a very old phone when i was younger and thats what they tried to tell me but when i ask for pictures that couldnt come up with anything so replaced my handset. Also ask them how long a warranty is supposed to last thought it was for the length of your contract?? If you still get no joy threaten and actually contact ofcom about them and the service you have recieved. To be honest not really surprised with t-mobile saying that as they will try and wriggle out of anything especially if they are going to be out of pocket!

I've not given up yet and do not intend on doing so.

I rang the cancellations line and spoke to one of the most helpful representatives I have ever spoken to. She asked me why I wanted to cancel, so I explained everything about the repair being declined, and that I have only had the phone for 5 months and do not wish to pay another 13 month without the phone I paid for, I also explained that I never dropped it or got it wet. She then phoned the repair centre and called me back to tell me that the repair centre hasn't yet processed the spreadsheet. So she said she will contact me tomorrow with details about getting an exchange. But she did say it all depends on the repair spreadsheet, so I don't think I will be lucky with this one.

If I cannot get an exchange, I will tell T-Mobile that i'll stop paying my bills. This will result in both my phones (i also have a blackberry which I also have trouble with) being disconnected. Then after so many weeks/months, I will begin to receive letters telling me I owe money, and eventually will get a letter telling me the service has been terminated as I have made no effort to pay. I then pay any outstanding charges for what I used this month, and bobs your uncle, I cancelled my contract without paying a termination fee. I did this a few years ago with a Vodafone contract and also did it with a 12 month BT landline contract, it really works. But I only do it if I have great reason to do so

Consumer law states that your phone is covered under warranty for a year. If it breaks before then they have to either replace or repair it free of charge. If they're saying it's uneconomical to repair then they have to give you a replacement free of charge.

If they say you have damaged the phone then the burden of proof in on them to come up with evidence that you have (probably) damaged it. You do not have to prove that you haven't damaged it.

Don't let them fob you off. It sounds as if they're breaking your statutory rights.

Sorry to come in so strong but i love it when people try quoting something which is fictitious (warranty is for 2 years and has nothing to do with consumer law)

Cubz, what you need to do is ignore T-Mobile and get opinion from Sony -

1st, need to get photographic evidence EMAILED to you from T-Mob of damage, if they can't they should repair/replace

2nd, call SE and ask their advice, email said photographs to SE repair department if necessary, include photographic evidence of phone exterior (no external damage = highly unlikely user damaged the main board)

SE Contact

Twitter = @SonyEricssonUK
Phone = 08705 237 237

hope that helps a little more

Jesus man, nowt like being polite lol

nice to see you around, and well, bout time your X10 managed to glimmer - to think you've missed out on everything i've had

2.2 running on X10, lightning quick with Flashplayer etc etc

imo better than the Desire HD simply as its better to hold and on 2.2 actually benchmarks better

oh, and you can hate as much as you like, i'm getting the ARC

ya bugger

Gave T-Mobile a call this morning, they said that because the phone is beyond economical repair, I can get an early upgrade but must extend my contract until March 2013. They also said I must pay delivery charge, and pay costs towards the phone. I think this is very very unfair but there's nothing I can do really.

Plus, they no longer stock the Xperia X10, so it's a no go with that :(

EDIT: I got really pissed off so I gave them a call back. I told them that all T-Mobile phones are crap and told them that I want the Xperia X10. They asked me if there is any other phone at all, that I like. So I said I would love to have the HTC Desire HD (I've been wanting it since it was released). She then told me that if I want the HTC Desire HD, I would have to pay

So looks like i'll be leaving you guys now. Although, I get to keep my damaged Xperia X10 so I will still pop on to answer questions and help anyone out that needs it, as it works perfectly other then the no signal problem :)

So, at the end of the day, it worked out better for me :)

:( Awww, will be sorry to see you go - but hey it sure pays to kick up a stink. Enjoy your new phone mate and don't be a stranger on here.

Mines for sale if she wants one or px for a desire hd :)

Well she said she only wants it for the games (especially angry birds, she would always take the phone of my for a few hours to play angry birds lol) so if I can't get it fixed, she's happy with continuing to use her blackberry, and using the X10 to play games, and browse internet via WiFi

Anyway, received my HTC DHD just over an hour ago and been playing with it since, and it is awesome!!

My favourite thing at the moment is the screen and the camera. I love the fact that I can now have automatic flash, especially with dual-flash, the photos are absolutely crisp and clear :) and so glad my Xperia broke now lol :D

so how does it compare with the x10?
i mean a modded x10 as you know aswell as me the x10 stock is shit! lol
is the desire rootable yet although i assume its nice and fast standard.
is the build quality any good compared to the x10, i love the feeling of the x10, its a very well made phone.

i still think i am going to hold out for the arc but the desire hd seems a decent enough phone.

Well all I can say is there's is no way I could go back to the X10 without missing the Desire HD. I especially like HTC Sence

Gave T-Mobile a call this morning, they said that because the phone is beyond economical repair, I then went on to say that it is not my fault that they cannot fix it (although the damage was sort of my fault but I was taking the advice of another website

Hmmmmm OK

So what was the actual damage done to the phone, and why was it kinda your fault ???

Oh and the jokes on you as i will have the ARC in 35 days (and already played with it, and the NEO, and the PLAY too) and they are AWESOME beyond AWESOMENESS

Loving the new SE range - to quote the wife "THEY ARE SO SEXY"
