Add Calengoo Calengoo Calengoo!!!

I was able to use the calengoo beta version for about 6 weeks before buying the paid version in January, 2011. Even though the major competition were still free, I had no hesitation to pay the $6 for calengoo. The developer keeps surprising me with added new features to the paid version (I believe there has been 23 updates since the start of the paid version. Every once in a while, I pop back into this thread or I would go back to the Market and download Business Calendar, Pocket Informant, Touch or Jorte to see if there have been any improvements. Calengoo is still superior in my opinion.

It is a damn shame there is no free trial version of Calengoo for new users to test out. I have emailed the developer that he is probably losing alot of customers because Android users seem to be so hesitant to buy unless they can try for free. However, I would still recommend that people looking for a good calendar should skip a Happy Meal and try out Calengoo.

@andyrubin: Had you used the Palm calendar in the past? Just wondering if your opinion on Pimlical is based in part on familiarity. I've used the Palm calendar from about 2002-8...loved it.

Sure, my first device was a Visor Deluxe, then a certain CLIE, and at last Treo 650 before jumping over ship.

What can I say, Pimlical/A is the closest candidate to Datebk on the Android platform, the features and options are there. That being said, there are still many differences. For example, Pimlical/A makes heavy uses of gestures to move around the app, which is understandably because most Android apps use capacitive-touch and so require a different interface design.

So, there's still a learning curve from moving from Datebk to Pimlical, but once you got the initial sorted out it's pretty much Datebk with a somewhat different interface.

That cannot be said for the rest of the apps.

If you can take Function -> Form, then it's the app to use. And CESD is still working actively on it, and I expect the rough interface to improve over time.

P.S. One of the things I check first is whether they can handle complicated recurring events and exceptions, and if they use the stock date/time picker.

I read through all the posts, and couldn't find a duplicate issue like the one that I am having. I have (of course) the main 'default' calendar on my moto droid which is attached to my 'personal' gmail account. I also have the pure calendar widget which is everything I want/need for a quick view of appointments etc. (also is working great with sweeter home)
Here is my issue:
I can't seem to be able to add my business gmail calendar account.
This is what I've found. When I go into my calendar settings, I can add an account, which the only drop down is the weather account.
Looking further into the matter, I went into system settings, account sync and added my business gmail account here.
Now this is the part where it gets a bit tricky.
On my 'personal' gmail account I can sync contacts, calendar & gmail.
On my 'business' gmail account, I only have the option to sync my contacts and gmail.
I don't know why the calendar feature isn't there, but it's been erking me for a little while now.
What I'm looking for is the calendar that will have both my personal and business events and appointments in one single calendar.
The perfect example I am looking for is iCal. If you are a mac user, you know that everything is right there, color coded for my viewing ease.
Could someone please help me with what I may have missed, or a new app that will allow this to happen?

I'm pretty sure calengoo will do this--you can add accounts in calengoo, rather than relying on android, or do both, one each way.

and it's by far the best anyway.

Done!

Can't make it an open poll on edit, sorry.

Touch Calendar added - running out of slots - I think it maxes out at 24 or 28 - can't see on edit...

No worries, thank you for indulging us being so finicky, lol.

One other moved into Calengoo. :)

The rest you guys can sort out and get back to me.

And - congrats! - this has to set the record for the most modded poll in our history! :D :D

hahaha, I'm not surprised.

I've read it has not been released to the android market yet, I really don't want to spend money on an app just to try it out.
Which is your prerogative, those of us who have prior experience with this excellent developer don't mind paying to beta test ;) Calengoo is more money, and I'm sorry, you can't make a decision on a program that you're going to manage your time with within 15 minutes, so you're paying for that one, too, to see if you want to use it.

Seriously, if you have a complicated or complex schedule and are used to having all kinds of power in a calendaring program, Pimlical has no peer. If all you want to do is keep track of a few things, the other options work just fine.

You say it has no peer....I would agree that it has no peer among free apps, but calengoo is in the same class. From the screen shots, I expect pimlical is not as fast as calengoo for adding events.
I was not impressed with CalenGoo. I have no problem quickly adding anything to Pimlical. Obviously it's all in what appeals to you. Have you tried Pimlical ?

Either is easily worth the modest price.
Yes, I agree.

I have not tried pimlical. The screens shots that I've seen did not convince me that it was even as good as Calengoo, but I just visited thescreenshot page and it's been updated since I last looked, and I see some nice features, like the 15 min. buttons on the time picker. What does the date picker look like? Does it show a calendar? it might be time for me to try it.

What did you dislike or find limiting about CG?

I am just used to the way CESD 'thinks'. I need the ability to create multiple repeating irregularly scheduled appointments, something CalenGoo just wasn't up to handling.

If you value a nice-looking interface, Pimlical/A is unlikely to appeal to you.

That's just the way the developer prefers, Functions first, Forms second.
The 'beauty' will come as soon as the functions are all streamlined.

I believe you can still download a free 30 day trial version of Pimlical Desktop (I use the fully paid version to back up my google calendar on my computer on a regular basis just in case the google cloud ever blows up). There is a 100+ page manual to give you a good idea as to what Pimlical desktop (android) is (or will be) capable of doing and also gives you a good idea as to how the developer thinks (very technical and detailed, "function over form" is a great way to put it).

A couple of features of Pimlical which are rather unique is the creation of floating events and a powerful filtering systems to view only certain events that you choose. I have adopted Calengoo and have been able to use some workarounds which allow me to do some things in a similar way so that I really do not miss Datebk or having pimlical on my android (currently Calengoo allows you to sync google tasks which I believe pimlical does not; when I create certain types of events, I have long ago developed the habit of using the same keywords to make it easier to search for and to viewthese events whether using filters in pimlical/desktop, datebk or calengoo). When I have more time, I may still pay for and download pimlical/a just to check it out and to help the developer pay for more bananas for his gorillas.

Many of the calendars have pretty limited repeat functions. A few of the better ones can do, for example, repeat on Tuesday and Thursday, or repeat every other week, but can't combine those to do, for example, Tuesday and Thursday every other week. But Calengoo can do every combination that I can think of there.

It's hard to be convinced that there's something that Pimlical can do that others can't without specific concrete examples. So far the only concrete thing I have is the

ALSO - (kind of related) I JUST FOUND A CALENDAR SNOOZE APP! :D It's called..."calendar snooze." I downloaded it about an hour ago, and seems to do everything I want it to and more. (e.g., 1 - "snooze for" [#] [min/hr/day]; 2 - "snooze until [date/time]; 3 - default snooze, 4 - edit item, etc). It acts kind of like an alarm clock, going off every 15 - 30 seconds or so until you choose to do something with it (you can mute it though). Im super stoked on it so far.

Good find javelin9! Also from the same developer there is a little app called make appointment that I'm enjoying. Press the icon (generic) and it pops you right into event creation (stock interface though).
