I have an upgrade coming up in a couple of weeks, and I don't know what to do...I've done a lot of research on the Inspire and it looks fantastic...I'm coming from an iPhone 3g...and without any kind of bias, is the Inspire a good phone to go to? I've never had an android device before...and I'm awfully tired of Apple in general...should I wait and get the iPhone 5? Or will the Inspire be a good phone to go head to head with it?

I had a 3G myself and upgraded to the iPhone 4 when it came out. The "death grip" was a major issue for me, so I decided to switch to Android.

Now I can't picture going back. Android has more of a learning curve in the beginning to get up and running, but once you do everything can be set the way you want it.

I doubt anybody is going to know what "Inspire vs iPhone 5" is going to look like, so that's pretty hard to say.

You will get very biased answers in this forum on this topic so i will try to be unbiased here.

Your options.
1)Get an iphone 5. This has the benifits of a familiar user interface for you, and the fact that all of your purchased apps and accessories will still work with the iphone 5 is no small consideration.
2) Get an Inspire. The Inspire is a wonderful phone and you will love the customization options, HTCs ability to locate, lock and whipe your phone, the larger screen, the fast speed, but will mostly likely gripe a little about the battery, the speaker. You will be blown away by the camera, the web browsing experience, and the 4g speeds (when they come out) along with being pleasantly suprised by the amount of available apps. I also prefer the market over Itunes. The fact that you can user replace the battery and SD card (which can be cheaply upgraded to 32G is no small improvement either).
3) Wait for the next round of phones to be released. If you are not in a hurry, there are always bigger and brighter solutions around the corner...just know that at some point you are going to have to bite the bullet and pull the trigger on SOMETHING. If money is a concern....suck it up and get the inspire now...its a bargain at $99.00

My friend had a captivate and I messed around with it and noticed that It's a lot better in making it your own....and I love that...it's weird I know...but I think I'm really going to miss the switch to go from vibrate to sound, right away...ya know? And there's an alarm clock and such, right? Cause I basically use my phone as an alarm clock to wake up for work, class, and such...

I really think I am...I think I'm more scared because I'm going to be switching to something completely different...and I have spent quite a bit on apps and such...but there is no way I can wait almost 6 months to get a new phone...this iPhone 3g freezes for everything I do...

Another question...since I do use iTunes...and yeah, I actually like the format of iTunes, a lot...will I still be able to sync all my music from iTunes? Or will I have to use a different music player? And if I do...what should I use?

I have my Inspire set to ring when I'm not at work and mute/vibrate when I am at work. Don't have to touch a thing for that schedule. Can the iPhone do that? ;)

An alarm clock? How about 10 pages of them? :p

I still use iTunes. I sync wirelessly with iSyncr. (doesn't work on DRM files, IIRC)

That is very nice...so you can set a basic calender for that? How easy is it to just switch it to mute/vibrate in an instant, is it just as easy?

So is there no alarm clock on the phone itself, like the iPhone? I found the alarm clock that was on the phone itself was very nice...being able to have it go off on certain days and such...does the Inspire have that as well?

I've seen a lot of people use iSyncr and such, and I wrote that down for apps and such I needed to get if I get the Inspire...yeah, that's how much research I've done, I'm a Telecom major after all. Lol...is it simple to use?

As to the first question - there is a widget you can put on any of the screens for "Profile," which allows you to toggle between regular, silent, and vibrate with a tap of the screen. I came from an iPhone 3GS and liked the external switch a lot too - the widget obviously isn't as easy to access as the external switch, but it's pretty darn close.

As to the alarm clock questions - yes, there is a built-in alarm clock. With the stock clock/weather widget that comes on the home screen the first time you turn the phone on, all you have to do is tap the clock part and you can then tap the alarm button after that to set one or multiple alarms. No need to download a separate app unless you really want to.

Finally...someone that understands...that external switch is a real love of mine for the phone. Lol...but thanks...I'll look for that if I end up getting that phone.

And sweet...as long as I can set multiple alarms, and set the same alarm to go off multiple days...I'm happy...like I said I use my phone as an alarm clock...so it's really convenient if I can have an alarm set for multiple/certain days, like on the iPhone.

I to am looking to switch from Iphone 3g to the Inspire. The one thing that I'm still trying to figure out is if the Inspire has swipe texting or drag texting (not sure what the correct verbage is)? That is one big selling point for me. I checked out the phone today during lunch but could not figure out how to change it or if it even has the option to. Can anyone that has the Inspire help me out with this?

Hi there! We just switched after having Iphone 3GS' for almost 2 years. It took awhile to warm to the idea of switching to Android, but now that I have, I LOVE IT! It's so much more customizable and there are just little features that make you say "WOW, my iphone couldn't do that!" The biggest one was that you can set your own Text ringtones.

The Sense UI is great! I am loving how everything integrates so well. The phone is just awesome and this is coming from someone who ONLY uses Apple products. You won't get me to switch to different computers any time soon though.

I'd say make sure you do your research and play around with the phone first. It does have a learning curve like Chew mentioned, but it's worth it because it doesn't box you in like Apple does.

I'm sure the iphone 5 will be great, but they never release details about it until right until it comes out. I hate the waiting around! Another great feature is FLASH! I can view many more websites now thanks to this phone. I personally feel the Inspire is better than the Iphone 3G, but not sure how it will be compared to the Iphone 5. Either way, you're not stuck with it forever at least.

Thanks for the insight! I will more than likely switch...it's just the fact that I've been so used to having this format of phone, that it's gonna be a little hard to go to something completely different...but I've done a lot of research, and I just wanted to get other people's opinion...you know real people, not just opinions of reporters and such.

I understand completely. I went back and forth with deciding. I was just so used to iOS like you. Real user experience is important. I say go with your gut! It's been a fun adventure so far. We traded in the iPhones at radioshack and actually made money off the deals!

Loved my iPhone 4, except that I spend quite a few hours of every day in meetings and the notifications system was poor, at best. Plus, I wore it naked and the death grip issue did affect me- it was actually quite frustrating. Playing games was great and iOS was easy and intuitive. I had an Evo prior to that in a 22 day experiment. Unfortunately I had reception issues at work and the experiment came to a halt. So I thought I'd go back to AT&T and play with the iPhone 4 until a suitable Android device hit. And I waited for a while. A colleague got a Captivate and I wasn't captivated, especially given his problems with the GPS. And we all know Samsung's update track record.

I sold the iPhone 4 for $500 and paid $179 for the Inspire. Deal of the century for this device. Excellent hardware, Android greatness, and HTC Sense. And I have money left over for a Zagg Shield, Seidio Active X case, eventual car mount, the list is long. I love Craigslist.

Thanks!

I'm guessing that it was 179 due to the 16 gb sd card?

Not until you receive another message. It's a one-time notification.

thats not entirely true you can set reminders, to re-notify at selected intervals if you use any third party messaging app like sms-pop up which retains your normal sms client and adds a pop up or the others such as gosms, chompsms, or handcent which are complete clients
