My wife and I both own Samsung Transform phones and we both had this very aggravating problem. It took me awhile to find the solution so I'm posting this hoping that it will help others.

PROBLEM: The keyboard backlighting, as well as the lighting for the four soft-touch buttons on the face of the phone, blink rapidly anytime the keyboard is slid in or out, or when a key is pressed, but will not stay illuminated making it impossible to use the keyboard at night or in the dark.

SOLUTION: In SETTINGS > SOUND & DISPLAY, I originally had my "Keyboard Timeout" set to "Same As Screen Timeout". I changed this to "1 minute".
So now my Screen Timeout is set to 10 minutes and my Keyboard Timeout is set to 1 minute. Now the lights are working properly.

I hope this helped. If it did, please let me know by posting it here. :)

Yes, I had the same problem a month ago and found the same solution back then after much google-fu :p. It works quite repeatably. My mom had the same issue - this fixed it. Predictably, tech support tried to shove the total protection plan down my throat saying that "it's a hardware problem" and probably needed a replacement phone. Idiots.

I'd do a better job as one of them repair technicians. Geeze these guys don't get it...
