I would not use any solvents or other liquids to clean the screen.

Instead jsut buy a microfibre cloth which will clean anything off the screen with nothing more than a bit of breath!. It will also comes in handy to safely clean your PC and TV screen so its well worth outlay. Given the cost of the phone and the importance of the screen for both vision and touch control, the cloth (I bought 3 for

Acetone / nail varnish remover does a good job.
I am afraid you can't use acetone for cleaning the screen. It is too aggres.sive and it can slightly dissolve the surface of the screen. Try to buy some screen cleaning fluids which are for LCD monitors or plasmas. This should do the trick

Damn! What the hell is it doing to my nails then? ;) :p

I bought some Brasso Gadgetcare. It is a thick-ish liquid which comes with a microfibre cloth. You put a couple of drops on the screen, rub it on in circular movements, and polish it to a shine. Keeps the screen free of fingerprints for ages and makes it really shiny. Brilliant stuff. I also use it on my laptop, TV and PC screen.

I agree with this post. That brasso stuff got a good review in custompc mag.

You could also try good ol spit n polish.

I wonder if that glass screen would be able to survive my drunken nights out without the screen protector im using

You don't really need a screen protector for a glass screen, since there are few things that can actually scratch glass.

According to The Mohs Scale, materials can only be scratched by harder materials....and glass ranks pretty high, meaning that it can't be scratched by lesser ranking materials such as Silver, Gold, Copper, etc.

So unless you're carrying something made of steel, diamond, or quartz in your pocket with your phone then you're not gonna scratch the screen.

My last phone was a Nokia and it had a cheap plastic screen. Needless to say that after a few months it had several visible scratches all over the screen. I've now had my Desire for 6 months and don't have a single scratch....and I've treated it no differently to my Nokia.
