With the stock sms and gosms the messages in the thread appear in the wrong order for me. I've put this to a network problem but using handcent the messages appear in the correct order, strange but handcent for me.

I've been using Handcent for a while and totally love it. I don't know whether GoSMS has similar capabilies as I have never tried it but once you customise the appearance of Handcent (streamline the layout to get rid of the ugly speech bubbles it loads by default and download a few free font packs from the market) it looks great and I have had no performance issues at all with it.
But what I love most about Hancent is the ability to change the notification colour of the LED so I have it flashing pink when my female friends text me, blue for the males, orange for general contacts and green for.....well, that would be telling, hehehe.

Just put GoSms in and already love it, did have handcent but never liked it one bit but it did a few things the stock app couldn't do, but gosms seems a lot better now.
I've used Handcent for long time but a recent update had caused my MMS images to have a chess board effect when I send them. I raised this on their forum, along with some other poster, but heard nothing.
I looked at goSMS but I read that you dont get the LED missed message option which I like and can be tweaked so its not flashing but on permanently and also different colours too. Not bad for a free app
I use Handcent. I tried GoSMS, but noticed the LED always stays on and blinks a different colour, so was worried about battery, which my Desire is completely killing at the moment....
Swiftkey is currently $1.99. I've got the trial version - not sure it's the answer.
I really want something that allows me to correct errors after I notice them. I find it almost impossible to get the cursor where I want it - I think it's probably an HTC problem (that stupid cut/paste screen when you touch the screen) and that no app is going to overcome that.
I just want something with decently spaced keys - I've got pretty small fingers but still manage to hit the wrong key more than 50% of the time.
Also looking for something with a good predictive text which will allow me to switch languages easily (English/French). Am I asking the impossible?

Agreed Swype is the best! Back to main OP question I personally hated handsent it didnt look polished enough. It looks slightly cartoonish in my opinion.
