Hey, just a warning to all of you Galaxy S owners who think your screen
is scratch proof because it is supposedly Gorilla Glass. Well, I can now confirm that it is not. You may have seen those corny Korean Youtube vids of the dude scratching the glass with keys, nails dropping it on the sidewalk etc.
I just had my phone in the pocket of my jeans, never dropped and a case, and it now has a very tiny deep scratch. The kind you can click with a fingernail. I am so pissed, because it is basically new. It's been in a case, and I believed it would at least be safe in a freaking pocket. I expect normal wear and tear over time, but the so called Gorilla Glass=FAIL! :(

My question is when you are welling to pay $500-750 for device why in the hell wouldn't you just buy screen protector for like $10 even if its oem. I mean you can spend $20+ (not BS invisibleSHEILD) for DQC based type but think of it as investment. Why take chance? GL with grind of sand in pocket see how that works out for ya.

ugh... man, I bought exactly a 750 dollar worth phone with a gorrilla glass SO I DONT HAVE TO BUY an extra 20 dollar protection....
you can look at this way too...

Anyway I bought like 20 protectors, some cheap , some expensive I guess I spend about 40-50 dollars on it. And NONE were good. Either they didnt fit or the look got bad , they didnt feel right, or was impossible to put them on right. (on my hero , no problem , I have a perfect protector but the SGS no luck)

djtopcat: even in the video you can see the screen crack in the end, and there are marks on the screen after the "heavy" usage...

Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. There's a difference.

Did you have anything else in your pocket....keys, rocks, sand? I can't imagine it scratching by itself.

Who knows? maybe I had little gnomes in my pocket with pickaxes lol

the point I'm trying to make is that a $500+ phone should not get scratched that bad in any pocket. Why then did both of my Iphones w/o screen protectors never have that problem and I carried them the same way for years? I'm telling you they do not all have Gorilla Glass, either that or it's a manufacturing defect. I didn't use a screen protector specifically because I was conned by those videos, and screen protectors ruin the whole point of having Super AMOLED.

I have been carrying mine around in my pockets and have had no scratch so may be you do have some gnomes in your pocket picking at you lovely SGS with pick-axes out of envy probably.:D

Scratch that! Just noticed a tiny scratch today. If this is the case why so much BS about scratch resistance.

that's why some pple go for a CLEAR screen protector. Those fingerprint proof ones are a big no no.

Uf, man, AN ANYONE ELSE THIS "SMART" .

SCREEN PROTECTORS ARE OF TOPIC IN THIS THREAD

Besides the fact I bought myself 20 worth 50 dollars, different types. A none of them worked like they should. (looking bad, bad feeling, didnt fit right , bla bla tralalala)

Can you "SMART" ppl look at this , this way? "I BOUGHT MYSELF A PHONE FOR 750 dollars, SO I DONT HAVE TO SPEND MORE FOR PROTECTION"

Seriously, what help does it do, if you just talk talk talk about the same "buy a screen protector" ....

I did always buy one. Once the phone got scratched under it. I dont know how this was possible, but once it did (different phone)

So much help saying "you should have bought a screen protector... "

Btw I dont use the screen protector , just a pouch since the plastic covers can get scratches and I have no scratch on it yet I guess (I am afraid to look)

And I am still interested in those videos , of which the OP was speaking, cuz the ones I saw ended with a scratched screen, or a cracked one eventually..
