Root Is there a benefit to rooting before applying the update?

Now that the official update is out, I'm trying to decide the best approach. Sounds like it's working pretty seamlessly for most folks, but I'm looking for the best backup option. Seems that things like Titanium require a root to work. Is there a benefit in rooting before upgrading? Or can you even do the stock upgrade once you've rooted?

I was rooted before the update and did all my backups with Titanium, but the update wiped out my root and I can't get it rooted again.

Good thing is the update didn't wipe any data or apps at all.

So is there any value in rooting and backing up (I'd have to buy Titianium...don't have it yet since I'm not rooted) before upgrading, or since we can't re-root Froyo (yet...I have to think that will come soon) does that not really buy me anything?

I just rooted Froyo with Super one-click 1.7, so it does work. You just have to be sure to reboot the phone after it's done.

The value is at least being able to backup all of your apps and data to an external sd card in case anything were to happen. What you would need to do is use Titanium Backup and change the name of the backup location in preferences to sd/TitaniumBackup. I removed the external sd before I did the update. With the update, it changes the name of the external sd card to external_sd. To get TiBU to find your backed up data once you upgrade, you need to rename the backup folder location to external_sd/TitaniumBackup. Your backed up data should all be there.
