All Things Froyo

this worked perfectly for me! thanks you!

Question about this, I came from iPhone and anything I bought in Appstore I was able to download for free again... is Market the same way? I'm not updating for a few days, but if I have the same issue and use the same technique you did, I'm going to want to know coz I don't want to be SOL out of money.

Sounds like it's a Kies problem that's causing the bricks. Has anyone that flashed the leaked version yesterday with Odin had the same problems? My screen went black once yesterday, but it was when I was trying to root after the update. My GF tried to unlock the screen before it was done booting up and it went black. IIRC, I pulled the battery and rebooted.

Yeah, you're fine in that regard. You'll get all your paid apps back as long as you add the same Google account. Just replaced a random shutdown plagued Captivate the other day and while none of my apps were on the replacement phone, I didn't have to pay for anything a second time.

Yes, anything you paid for through the Market can be redownloaded for free. It is tied to your Google account. If you want to save yourself some trouble, use Titanium Backup, create a backup of the apps you want to keep and save the backup on an external SD card or transfer to your PC to save room on your phone's internal SD. Then you can use Titanium Backup to restore the apps.

See my post from above.

I tried the "clear user data" option and I was still getting a black screen on restart.

Tried wiping the internal SD card and still got a black screen.

I spoke with Samsung and they offered to repair it. Unfortunately the turn around time is 6-10 days not including shipping. At least they offered to pay for it.

Any other suggestions from everyone? Would rather not return it Samsung and be without a phone for 2 weeks.

Unfortunately my computer won't recognize the phone.

At this point I'm stuck with a black screen and the occasional phone vibrate.

I was planning to update tonight, but these potential bricked phones have me scared. I'm going to wait until at least the weekend and see what happens.

^ THIS! I guess not have KIES or the OTA option are the least of my concerns.

A recent Windows Phone 7 update for the Samsung Omnia reported quite a number of phones had the update either failed or the phones were bricked. No other win 7 phones were effected.

I'm starting to think it is Samsung and their less than stellar software/firmware support!

Well for the guys that where getting stuck at the Android Contractor screen what I did was wait an additional 5 minutes then yanked the battery. After that my phone booted up and I Upgraded using Kies. I also got the black screen-random vibrations-lit cap buttons on the bottom. I just let the phone do its thing till it finished rebooting. All is working fine on my end. I did this running Windows 7 Ultimate in 32 bit. I ran Windows in Boot Camp using my Macbook. Just need to get my home screen to how I like it now.

I am sort of stuck on the yellow screen as well, after doing the hold down both volume buttons and insert USB cable step. Any help would be appreciated.

took a chance after 30 minutes in the yellow screen, unplugged phone, shut it down, yanked battery, restarted and went to that recovery screen thing, i chose to just go ahead with the boot as normal, phone started ok, back to what it was. this all happened BEFORE i updated with Kies (Step 3 in the Samsung How to page) so YMMV.

again turned USB settings to Kies, went to USB debugging, then flight mode. started Kies Mini, connected phone, ran update, finished OK, phone re-started (this took a while). lost my home page and widgets but all contacts and apps seem intact.

my phone is now Froyo 2.2.

Anybody try updating on a 64 bit windows 7 machine?

Yes, I did that and it worked fine for me. Although something is causing the updates to not work. I run completely stock and had no issues aside from one freeze-up when I overloaded the phone with app updates (About 30 of them at once ).

So far from what people have said stock phones will be fine. Non-stock may pose a problem depending on what sort of changes you have made.

Try restarting the phone. Mine showed 0 apps in downloads right after the upgrade. After I restarted, they all came back.

My paid apps are showing in Market but not the free ones from my account. They show online but not on my phone. Is there a way to make them show? Rather than searching and redownloading. I wiped before I updated.

Thanks!

I may be preaching to the choir, but if you press the menu button in Market you should see a "My Apps" option. Click that and I normally see all of my downloaded apps there (alerting you of app updates too)
