Since getting my Inspire, one of the first things I did was configure the native email app to use Yahoo IMAP. It has worked like a champ, no problems at all. Then yesterday, my updates get really spotty. No updates for a while, then they all come in at once. And now today, it's not syncing at all. I haven't changed any of the settings and they are all correct after checking them. Everything else works just fine, data is fine, internet works fine, market works fine, even gmail works fine. So I tried k9 email, set it up and it works perfectly. What the hell?? The phone's native email won't get Yahoo's IMAP but k9 will? It's not a huge deal, I can use k9 but I did like HTC's email widget and it runs from the phone's native app. I like that nice full screen widget. Is anyone else having this problem or am I the only lucky one?

Similar issues on my Inspire.

First, I failed authentication while on wi-fi (worked fine with network data). The next day, it randomly started to work fine on both wi-fi and network data.

Today, my work Yahoo! mail account cannot send mail (fails authentication on smtp), but incoming works fine. My personal account which is configured the EXACT same way, works fines, both incoming and outgoing. Nothing has changed since it was working perfectly before.

As well, I just use the native mail for Yahoo! and Hotmail accounts and use the Gmail app for my Gmail accounts.

I, too, would rather use the native app, but it looks I am going to download and try K-9 later tonight.

Yep my native phone still won't work at all but k9 with the same settings is working just fine. I wish I could get the nice HTC widget to work with k9 but I don't think it can. I've actually seen several more posts like this on other forums as well. I wonder what the deal is??

Maybe Yahoo! changed a setting because I was having that same issue beginning yesterday.

Spotty updates and when I would try to manually update I would get a log-in error.

Checked my settings and when it would try to authenticate, it would error out.

What I did today, and it appears to be working as I haven't had any other issues, is change the security setting from "none" to "SSL" for both incoming and outgoing mail. As I said, no issues since doing this. :)

Hey, good call! I did the same and now it's working again. Gonna watch it to make sure it keeps working.

My email msn/hotmail was working great until this morning, it is getting mail somehow fine, but does not want to send, please help me..any ideas?
thanks
My wife's Aria hasn't been retrieving her emails either. I honestly think something has been changed that we're not aware of. I've since switched to k9 mail and it's working flawlessly. Yesterday, there was a k9 update and one of the changes was this;
"IMAP, SMTP and Exchange protocol fixes"

I think they know something we don't because my native email app still won't work. Even after checking and adjusting everything, it will not fetch new emails unless I force it too. :( Guess I'm sticking with k9.

Try this, for incomming change security type to ssl and server port to 993, outgoing security type to ssl, server port 465. hope this works.

Hello,

Yahoo mobile email service changed their setting on their end. Your phone's native email app to get Yahoo needs the new settings entered manually.

For Yahoo email, use the following.

Incoming Settings:
IMAP
Imap Server: android.imap.mail.yahoo.com
SSL
Server Port: 993

Outgoing Settings
Login required: checked
SMTP Server: android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
SSL
Server Port: 465

This was originally posted in the Samsung Captivate forum. My Captivate Yahoo email stopped working and as soon as I made these changes, it works fine. On the Inspire 4G, you need to set up your Yahoo email manually using the above settings and it will work fine. I have two Yahoo email accounts on my Inspire and it works perfectly using the built-in email app.

(Additional Note) I have the Samsung Captivate, HTC Inspire 4G and the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the above settings were used in all three devices in their native email app. Yahoo works perfectly on all three devices. Also, just so you know, the native email app in these devices other than the Gmail app is NOT automatic push email enabled. You must set the email app to query the email service every so often to have your device retrieve the email. My Yahoo account setting is set to retrieve email every 2 hours. You can set the email app to check every 5 minutes, but that would kill your battery in a hurry.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just got my Inspire last week and I am having trouble with my Yahoo mail. Being somewhat of a newb to Android, can someone walk me through how to get to the screen where I can change these settings? I've searched all through my phone's setting menus and can't seem to find where to change the settings listed above?

Thanks!

Hi All, newb on android with Inspire 4G. Interesting problem. Two Yahoo accounts... one works like a charm and the other stopped working... trying all tips given on this forum, does not work. what gives... please help ...

Yep, same here on my Evo 4G. 2 accounts work fine but not my default. I've had to delete and re-add accounts several times but that's not working now. Hard booting didn't work either. The SSL settings are where there were supposed to be last we knew. Just keep getting "login failed" and no mail. I've checked username and password, and my online yahoo account is not locked out.

This is maddening.

I have been using the native client to get my Yahoo mail on my Inspire for months. Today out of the blue it stopped working. I checked all the settings shown here, didn't help. Rebooted, delete and reinstalled account etc. No help.
I setup a yahoo email account using my credentials on my wife's droid (backflip) and it worked fine. Setup yahoo on outlook using IMAP and it worked fine.
I'm NOT convinced the problem is on Yahoo's end. It looks like HTC's client has some issues. I think an update was pushed to my phone but not sure.
I installed K-9 and it works so it looks like the native client has problems.

I'm fairly certain there is something amiss on Yahoo's end. I know for a fact there have been no updates to my phone. My Yahoo mail stopped downloading Thurs. before that is was working fine using the native HTC mail app. I tried the Yahoo app, but it doesn't allow me to set a custom sound, so it's useless. I'm just waiting now for Yahoo to correct the problem.

ThePeaceDog,
I was wondering if we are having the exact same problem. I can send mail using the HTC client with a Yahoo account, but I can't receive email or see anything in my Yahoo Inbox. I had to setup the account manually which normally is not necessary.
My other Exchange Active/Sync account works fine. I have a gmail account I set up with the HTC client and it does the same thing as the Yahoo account, outgoing email good, Incoming email bad.
Yahoo over IMAP works on my old Motorola droid and it works on my wife's Motorola droid, both not HTC devices. Didn't even have to set it up manually, just put in the username and password and it worked. No manual setup needed.
I'm doubtful that Yahoo is allowing IMAP to work on some phones and not others. Also if Yahoo is the problem why does it work on those other devices and not the HTC phones using the same protocol???
I talked to HTC support today and they admitted they are having a problem with the email client. Of course every stupid support person wants you to reset the phone to factory defaults and I'm not doing that.
I'm against using Yahoo's client also. I'm using K-9 now and its working but I really miss the HTC email widgets.
