Hey guys, I've been a long time lurker on these forums, and everybody has given great advice. I have a couple of questions:

  1. I was wondering if there was a way (even through an app) to automatically turn cellular data off when wifi is in use so that the battery is not drained when wifi is on? Would you still be able to make phone calls and send text messages with wifi only?
  2. Also, if 4G is not in your city, does the atrix still look for 4G? If so, can you stop that?

Thanks in advance.

Setting> Data Manager>Data Delivery then UNCHECK:
BACKGROUND DELIVERY
DATA ROAMING
DATA ENABLE
Under Social Application> Sync over WiFi only Check this setting if you want to Sync your Facebook, Yahoo Mail, Google, etc over WiFi. This way you control your data usage.

Does it use less battery to be wifi and 2g only, or 2g/3g (4g) with no wifi?

Wifi uses more but, I have mine on up to three days with Wifi without a charge. I had to drain my battery 3 times and recharge them with Atrix turn off. I notice that my battery hold the charge alot longer than I first use them. This depend on how much you are using them include push notification. Like FaceBook, Google/Yahoo mail, and some app if you leave your PUSH Notification on you will rack up your data (depend how much mail or data you are getting). This is better to turn off your notification and when not using Wifi. You could do it manually when WiFi is not available. I hop this answer some of your question.

Thanks!

I'm just curious about this too, but what about the "H+" and why is that not turn off when WiFi is turn on.

Well, you want to receive phone calls don't you?

I decided to just increase my data plan from 200mb to 2gb per month. I'm coming from a blackberry, so I guess Android phones just use more data. Thank you to everybody that responded.

If you do the exact same things with an android phone that you can do with a crackberry, then your data usage shouldn't be too much different.

I had the Data Enable unchecked and couldn't get SMS texts.

One of the defaults on a home screen and there is a switch to turn off data. Wouldn't that do it?

Thanks for the help!
