How long can I expect the battery to last with the phone on standby with only 2g and no background stuff (3g,wifi,gps,etc. all disabled)? How many days can I get using it as a basic dumbphone?
I really haven't read all the threads because there are so many but I am new to the forum and to an android operating system. However, I spent the last week and a half trying to figure our why my Inspire was only lasting 8-10 hours top with hardly no use. SO i read all the forums and did what everyone said. Nothing worked and I just got really aggravated. (Quick side note. IDC what everyone says, a lithium battery has no memory, therefore conditioning does nothing to it. However some have there believes and I am ok with that. I don't believe conditioning the battery works but I am running it down each night to )% for the first few days.) Anyways back to the point. I had it and went back to the ATT store and told them what was going on. They marked my phone as DOA. I got a completely new phone and a new battery. Today was my first day of use on this new battery and phone and it is a world of difference. I am going on 17 hours right now and still have 30% battery left and I used it lightly to moderately all day long. So to make along story short, if you are having problems with your battery take it back and demand a new one. Some people ARE getting bad batteries. Luckily, I got a new phone and Couldn't be happier. Now instead of switching to the atrix I am going to stay with the inspire.
so taking it back to att worked to get a new phone? im having battery issues strong. two of my friends have this same phone and there batteries are dominant. just this morning my buddies was on 38 hours off the charger and still was at 20% battery. i had to charge mine after 14 hours. i have shut off vibration, dont use face book or any of those type of programs. my screen is almost dark i have the brightness turned down so much. but yet its saying my display is using 75% of the battery and i dont even use my phone to the point where id call it moderate use. he even has a moving background!!!!! but i have a feeling att is gonna tell me that everyone is experiencing battery problems and leave it at that although i only bought my phone 5 days ago!!!!! has anyone else returned it to get a new phone with a better battery?
Can anyone here post their battery stats when the battery is close to dead? I'd like to see not only percentages but how long stuff like "display" has been on.
I don't believe people getting 10hrs on an android phone, let alone an android phone with such a small battery. If I'm wrong I'll gladly eat crow, but I just can't believe this without seeing pics. I've owned android phones with much bigger batteries with a lot of stuff turned off and never got that good of battery life.
Dude your.such a hater
I'm sorry I can't help but be a little skeptical of an android phone with a 1230mAh battery getting that good of battery life.
Maybe I'm reading all this wrong, are the battery #'s people are posting how long their phone is "on" including when the screen is off with the phone asleep, or how long the phone is being used i.e. with the display on actually doing stuff.
Also I'm not hating at all, this is actually interesting. If an android phone gets that good of battery life with actual usage I might get this phone on ATT. I've owned a Eris,Droid,Droid 2, Droid X, Incredible, and currently a Fascinate, and none get that good of battery life.
Here is my usage as of now. Off the charger at 1030 its 440 at 66%
Display 68%
Cell stand by 6%
Phone idle 4%
Android 4%
Voice 4%
Internet 3%
WiFi 3%

So, pardon my math, your display has been on for just about 4 hours then right?
The way I'm reading everyone's posts on this topic is that they are quoting their battery time that includes use and non-use - i.e from the time they take it off the charger until it needs to ___ percent left. I would find it hard to believe that anyone could use it constantly for 10-15 hours with no stoppages or down time without getting finger cramps or a headache, but maybe that it just me.
At the end of the day, as long as the phone accomplishes what YOU (meaning each individual user) need it to, then I'm not sure how anyone can complain. Would it be nice if you could do anything you wanted on the phone and not have to charge it for 36 or 48 hours? Of course. But that isn't typically realistic with everything that these phones can do. That wasn't even realistic when I had my iPhone 3GS.
I feel like people forget that the Inspire screen is about 23% larger than the iPhone screen (and is also larger than virtually every other smartphone out there), so it's naturally going to use more juice. This is my first Android phone, so I can't compare the Inspire to other Androids, but every smartphone I've had (original iPhone, BB Bold, and iPhone 3GS) pretty much required me to charge it once every 24 hours. They all got me through the day (i.e. from the time I had to leave in the morning until I was home at night) and I just charged it over night while I slept. That being said, I always have a car charger in case I need to give it an extra bit of "fuel."
I know that I probably use it less than some people (I don't do any heavy gaming, listen to Pandora, or some things of that nature) but more than others, but it seems to work for me to do what I need it to do during the day, and as far as I can tell, that's all I can ask from any smartphone.
You are 100% correct. Out of the 15+ hours I get I am not constantly on my phone there is down time. Who doesn't have down time with there phone do we not work or have lives ??
I've had my Inspire for three days now - I am unsually an average user, except for traveling days, when I really put any phone through the paces.
I came from an iPhone 3GS.
I've got no problems with battery life on my new Inspire. I charge it at night and don't have any worries during the day. I have the display set on 60% brightness. I surf the web, make a few calls (not many), send texts, watch youtube videos, facebook - all the normal stuff. I was going to get a car charger because I didn't see a 1200 maH battery lasting long. Somehow it does. And I am satisfied.

Ok, thats what I need to hear. I'm sitting here asking myself "how the hell are these dudes getting almost 15 hours of pure usage on their phone. Thanks for clearing it up.
One constant I hear is that GSM phones get bettery battery life compared to CDMA.
That's it right there. They have done something in the optimization since the desire HD and this phone makes it through the day easy
I think the Thunderbolt developers are jealous...

Well apparently some websites are reporting that the Thunderbolt keeps getting delayed due to poor battery life. Maybe with the delays, they could knock about $150.00 off the price of the phone. $250.00 on contract is ridiculous.
