Post Your Data Usage!

Thanks PSX, i presume you got it on launch day? Are you a heavy user?

Yep, I picked mine up on launch day. It's a new toy, I'm playing with the phone a lot more now than I will in a few weeks when the new phone scent wears off :p

I would be willing to bet there are others with far more data usage than what I have now. The Droid does seem more data hungry than any of my iPhones were though.

I just took a peek at the AT&T site, this is from launch until today. The odd thing is, I am seeing 100-250KB packets at times even though I am connected to WiFi. Good thing I have unlimited, this phone uses quite a bit of data, I never hit those numbers with my iPhone.

Current Usage displayed as of:

865.71 MB

I have noticed that any time I do anything with the Android Market it uses HSPA rather than wifi. That may explain your unaccounted for packets.

I have used 47.8 mb in a week plus (almost always on wifi) and have sent 140 texts (apparently I am a social pariah).

Thanks Andrea and dwhip. I too will have like wifi everywhere. So i should be set with the 200mb plan. But still want to hear others input to make certain.

well for the first few days owning this pone i didn't change my data plan so i didn't have data access. got the 2gb data pro for hspa+ and data started working
here's my results so far.
i average around 40 MBs of data a day. at my workplace theres no wifi and i occasionally browse the web.
i usually catch wifi at home after work and on weekends. so in the three days i've been at work without wifi, i've accumulated about 109MBs of data usage so far.
i'm hoping that the 2gb plan will last me for my whole billing cycle..if it doesn't i'm gonna need to change up some browsing habits of mine ;)

I'm at 250 MB since release day. I'm on WiFi on the weekends but mobile data during the week. This data usage is mostly email, social nets, and web browsing. Very little streaming video and no streaming music.

This is a lot less than I was expecting, but more than double what I'd been averaging per month on my Nokia N97. A 200 MB plan is probably do-able with the Inspire, but you'll have to be pretty disciplined (or have good WiFi coverage).

The only place I have wifi is at home, anywhere else I am on AT&T's network. Which probably explains my usage. I still found it odd that early this morning when I would be sleeping I see "phone" sent data going over the mobile network, I thought all data would go over wifi if wifi was connected. Maybe its like the iPhone was, when the iPhone went to sleep it seemed to forget it was on a wifi network and send data over AT&T, then once you woke it up (press home, power, etc) it would be fully on wifi.

For kicks in power saver I unchecked the turn off wifi checkbox. Googling this, it seems it's a common issue that data uses AT&T instead of wifi when the phone sleeps, or is inactive.

net counter starting on feb1...

ATT network 140.70mb
wifi 2.111 GB

once I get a tape adapter in my car I'll start killing a bit more bandwidth with pandora lol... I did a bit over 250mb my 1st month with an android but I was using a very slow phone and very cautious about my data use and using opera (worked a lot better on the backflip) with the mid quality pics (uses less data)... I browse a few photo forums and such on occasion...
