Tips For Touch Screens

I know most of us are pretty crazy about our screens, and personally, I'll go crazy if there's even dust on it, and I'd die if it got scratched, so I'm making this thread so that we can all post our tips and advice on how to keep the screens clean, not scratched, and beautiful. Also, some tips on removing scratches would be good.

My Nexus One comes with a little pouch. It helps protecting the phone/screen, and, at the same time, I can use the pouch inside liner to wipe the screen. It's shiny and new everytime

Nice thread - I agree, I'm anal about my screen as well. The best tip so far iv gotten about keep our screens clean is a product you can find at any drug store..ie CVS, Walgreens etc. The product is (and I forget the name, sry) a eye glass cleaner, made specifically for cleaning sensitive glass and plastic's. It comes in a box with a ton of wipes. Also, which screen protectors is everyone using? I just bought a Xtremeguard, but have no review yet.

Ghost Armor, I have one installed on every phone I buy (just the screen, not the whole phone).

I'll swear by them and never use anything else.

Thanks, everyone! My only tips are pretty obvious, but I know a lot of people who didn't do these and got their screens messed up.

1. If you put your phone in your pocket, put your keys and other sharp items in the other pocket, EVEN IF YOU HAVE A SCREEN PROTECTOR.
2. Unless you know what you're doing, don't try toothpaste to clean a scratch, because you'll most likely make many more small scratches.
3. If you're putting on a screen protector, and a bit of dust is stuck underneath it, peel it off, clean the screen thoroughly, and re-apply the protector. The dust will cause scratches.

Like I said, most of these are obvious, but good to remember.

Thanks for these great reminders, sebastian117! You're right. These tips are very practical yet a lot of people don't apply them and they wonder why their screens look so bad. Sometimes I like to put my phone in my pocket, and when I do, I always make sure it's in the right side and it's the only one there. Even though I have a protector, I will never risk my screen getting scratched so all other objects must go on the left pocket.

I've had some bad experiences with dusts as well. My previous phone was badly scratched because I was too lazy to redo the protector even when I knew there were some particles stuck in there. It served as a lesson for me ever since. Be sure to follow sebastian117's advice so you won't have to learn the hard way!

Another tip: always use a microfiber cloth for your screen and clean in soft, gentle strokes. Might also be a good idea to bring the cloth wherever you go in case you suddenly need to get rid of some annoying smudges.

Another thing to remember, if you already have small scratches, some screen protectors (like Ghost Armor and I think Zagg as well) will "fill them in" to where you'll not notice them.

The great thing about Ghost Armor is that (around here) you can find them at a Kiosk in a mall and for $15 + $5 installation, they will put it on perfectly. It'll take a LOT of pulling to get them off, so no worries about slippage or peeling or coming up at the corners.

If there are issues withing the first 7 days, they will remove and re-apply for FREE. After that, you have a lifetime warranty where you can get them to remove and reinstall for the $5 installation fee only.

I have bought these for just about every touchscreen phone I have owned and not once have I ever had to have anything done after it was applied.

I use the Ghost Armour on the screen only. I can tell you one thing ITS AWESOME... Paid 15+5 at a kiosk here in AZ. Best money i spent. I also use the myTouch 4G Flex Prot. Cover - White/Gray from Tmobile store and i can tell you it has taken the beating with it coming off and on at least 1 a month. Sometimes more depending on what im doing.

The great part with the Ghost is that if you get a new phone peal/pry it off and bring to the kiosk and they will reapply a new one for 5 bucks. Or if your broke like me place it on there as neat as possible till you get some money. Still better then nothing.

I have this one & I don't recommend it @ all. It's difficult to apply correctly, & it gets grimey REALLY fast. I'd love to find a replacement that's matte & not as rubbery.

LOL, I have had them on 4 different phones myself, Wife had them on her iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and now her iPhone 4. Swears by them too.

Thing I like about this one vs the "plastic" ones that you put on yourself, is after some use, they get a little skin oil under them and start to bubble up or slip. If you put your phone in you pocket, dust starts to collect on the edges and also starts to get under them.

Ghost Armor, when professionally applied, has NONE of these issues. I tried to remove mine on my own once, even with pliers I could not get it off. Well, I should sat I stopped because I thought I was peeling more off than the screen protector, which I wasn't, but still panicked. I ended up taking it in and having them remove what was left.

Once you try one, you won't go back. LOL!

I was thinking about trying Rainx on my screen. Anybody tried this yet? I'm talking on a nude screen, just for preventing smudges.

I've tried Pledge from our dusting cloth (not sprayed on device) and it works pretty well for a while. I just rub the cloth on the screen because there is always some residual Pledge on the cloth and that is all it takes.

I just got the mytouch 4g. I ordered an otterbox for it from Amanzon. I just saw your post about Ghost Armor. My daughter has it on her iphone and it seems great. I am thinking about getting it for my mytouch.

One question, can I use the full body ghost armor and the otterbox?

I found a tip for cleaning glass screens found on tablets:

1. Clean your screen using a GOOD microfiber cloth and a little bit of water.
2. Repeat step one at least once! You really really want to have your screen as clean and "out-of-the-box" perfect as you possibly can get it. Check it at multiple angles and light to make sure you have no haze, no smudges, no spots.
3. Apply Rain-X to wet the corner of a clean cotton rag
4. Using a gentle swirling motion, apply the rain-x to the screen. It will bead up at first, but continue to swirl it on for about 20-30 seconds until it starts drying to a uniform hazy coating
5. Wet your microfiber cloth again, getting it damp but not dripping and buff off most of the hazy coat
6. When you have most of the haze removed, switch to the dry end of the microfiber and buff off the rest.
7. Go back to the bright lights and multiple viewing angles to check for missed areas.
