I am so frustrated with this phone right now.

At first it mounted to my pc fine and I was able to put music on it, then it would mount and then disconnect halfway through transferring music to the phone. So I spent about a day looking for a solution. I ended up finding one saying you have to unmount the sd card in the settings and then you mount it. That worked for about a week, now even when I do that it stops halfway through. WTF man...

I had a similar problem when I first tried putting music on my Droid. I found the only way to avoid it was to only transfer small batches of data at a time.

So instead of dragging 2000 songs over to the SD card only drag one artist at a time and don't add the next artist until that one has finished transferring.

For reference I'm using Mac OsX Leopard.

Really? Im only doing about 14 songs at a time and it's still disconnecting. Its quite disheartening. Im using an old school e-machine.

Um, so maybe it's your computer / OS and not your phone? I've transferred multiple GB of movies to my phone from my Linux computer without issue.

I only heard of one other guy having an issue like this. My guess is that it's a PC issue, not a DROID issue. What OS are you running? If it's XP, what Service Pack do you have installed? Also, are your USB ports 2.0, or 1.x?

I have 3 movies on my phone and a lot of music that were transferred fine without issue (albeit, after I unmounted the sd card in the setting) . I don't see how my computer and its OS would work one day and then not work the next.

My OS is XP, I do not know how to check what service pack I have installed and Im fairly sure my USB are 1.something because when I originally plugged the phone into the PC it said it would operate better with a 2.0 usb. I'm fairly certain it's a PC issue. It's just frustrating.

It seems like the fault is on the computer's end then. And when you plugged it in the phone even told you it may not work too well with the older hardware your using.

If your really getting irritated perhaps getting a USB Micro-SD card reader will help you out. It'll be a pain in the ass having to open up the phone and take the card out everytime you want to put something on it but it shouldn't freeze up at all.

Just take the phone out of the equation when transferring files.

Now it's time to be BRUTALLY honest! You have a CRAP PC, that most likely needs SP3 installed, your USB ports are out-dated ... and you have the nerve to create a thread titled, "I am so frustrated with this phone right now."??? Are you kidding me?!?!

Also take a look at your cable - I had a bad USB cable that caused my connection to the droid to drop randomly. Switching the cable fixed the problem.

Another possibility - a bad SDmicro card. Had that same symptom, searched for solutions on the web, and discovered that it matched a bad card - took it into the Verizon store, explained the issue & they very nicely swapped it out & it's been fine ever since. Loading multi-gigs of music frequently without a hangup (Snow Leopard & Mac).

Settle with that... it's not really helpful. That error does not mean his PC only has USB1.x.

@OP - The PC almost definitely has USB 2.0, The fact that your PC said a USB 2.0 device would operate better indicates that is understands USB 2.0. I could be wrong, and maybe even old systems use the same language, but seriously, I get that error from time to time on my Win 7 PC with USB 2.0 ports. It's usually just caused by a bad connection or incorrect detection of a hub. USB 2.0 was commonplace on PCs by about 2003... that's probably not the problem, but the error could indicate an issue.

If you have access to another PC, just plug it into that one. If it works, there's something up with your PC. Maybe reinstall the drivers for the USB controller. If it doesn't work in another PC, there's a problem with the phone or cable. If you determine the phone is defective, take it back and get a new one. Maybe a bad SD card as well... if the problem seems to be coming form the phone, just go to Verizon and get them to figure it out.

This is the most helpful advice you have gotten. Upgrade your PC, or check to make sure you have USB 2.0 drivers installed(if your PC supports 2.0) on your PC.
If you have a laptop or a friend that has a laptop that is newer than your PC, try moving a large quantity of music/movies/pr0n from that and see what happens.

While you might be right, you don't have to be a dick about it.

Update: I was able to connect it and transfer music for about 20 minutes and the problem started again. Such is life, I'm going to try it on my friends computer and let you all know how it turns out.

Umm, having USB 1.x ports isn't going to have any negative effect other than much slower xfer times. Not dropping. And you don't need much of a PC to simply copy files.A number of people have had this issue and in most cases it relates back to the SD card being bad. Better advise would have been for him to get it replaced at place of purchase.

A buddy of mine had two droids (his and his wife's) and his wouldn't stay connected for squat while hers was fine. Turns out the cable shipped with his was causing problems.
