UPDATE ::: This phone was a stock 2.2.1

I just need a little help getting back on track. Everything went wrong at this point below. And I haven't seen anything come out to show others with the same issues who followed this. I had not done anything to install a recovery at this point. I only moved the files flash_image and recovery-thunderc-m-v1.2.0-GNM.img to my sd card

This was the process I saw and performed thinking this would install the recovery. Clearly I wasn't sure what to do next.

info download terminal from the market and do the following commands:
# Su
# reboot recovery

that was posted in the linke for
http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/256286-custom-recovery-ms690-optimus-m.html

I originally had it flashed using Link.
http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/279318-root-2-2-1-get-data-working.html.

Phone was rooted and no service available, but was exactly where I needed to be before I went to getitnowmarketing's customer recovery for ms690 and got diverted by a post under the original post. Again I never got to do any of the steps aside from moving the two files to my sd card. From there I d/l'd terminal on my phone and ran the prog in su

Once I applied that recovery as stated above I not only have no service but now the android market does not download but interent still works with wifi, nothing more.

I'm trying to figure out what to do next. How do I go back or should I just move forwards?

Any Ideas? Should I be able to just reflash with LGPNST? Is there a different file I need to use to restore the phone before the recovery reboot?

Thank you to all you guys who have already done sooo much in this scene. You truely put some time and effort into this to make it possible for us to have control of our own phones. It's clear there is a huge demand and alot of people believe in what your doing.

UPDATE::: went home and connected everything back up and used the adb shell again.
Got $ and followed the steps again to gain su which resulted in # and to my amazement the dos screen allowed me to enter the steps to go further!!!!
yayay!

Changed the phone back to Mass storage via the phone settings
So I powered off the phone
Powered the phone back on with the (POWER, VOLUME DOWN, and HOME) key pressed at the same time.
My screen went blank
Phone was still plugged into the laptop
Unplugged it and took battery out
Put battery back in and restarted phone

Everything is working now that I can tell I guess I should continue.

Just a little perseverance does pay off.

Good That`s really good people that challenge themselves :)

for whatever reason I am having a hard time understanding how to do anything but a recovery reboot. I don't know how to get that screen that getitnowmarketing shows at the beginning of his tutorial.

Anytime I hold down the keys instructed I get a blank screen and the phone freezes up and I have to take the battery out.

I have the same thing on my phone, blank screen no reboot recovery. I guess some phones are slightly different.

My phone is still rooted so I decided since I can't seem to follow the rest of the directions that I would just d/l titanium backup (free) and I backup all the stuff and then started removing a few of the things just want off until I can figure out how to use the custom recovery they show on getitnowmarketing's thread.

Maybe a screenshot tutorial or video would clarify some of us who have a problem following verbatim

BTW for those of you who run into the same thing... from what i've been able to figure out. I rooted the phone fine the problem I am having in the end is the customer recovery will not boot up so i get a black screen only and freezes the phone.. .when I take the battery off and power my phone on i'm fine again.

plain and simple, it won't work yet for M's with 2.2.1 pre-installed

Thats the conclusion I was getting to. First smartphone I've dealt with. Kinda thankful things didn't run according to plan just wish there was more support. I've been using threads from various other phone models to gain more knowledge on what the scene is doing.

As I understand it there is no way to create a customer rom for pre-installed 2.2.1.

The phone can be rooted and you can remove bloatware but without a customer recovery... what would happen if I or someone like myself were to remove a key program? where do you go from there? Thats what I don't know... where's my safe point?

These are questions answered would help me move forward and potentially contribute what I can.

Well supposedly people have been downgrading their phones with 2.2.1 down to 2.2 ... and I'm also pretty sure that these people are ones that UPGRADED to 2.2.1 from 2.2.

I have yet to see a post that makes me feel that someone with a pre-installed 2.2.1 has downgraded to 2.2

The current customer recovery listed above is for 2.2 as explained by andyo70. At this time looks like a downgrade is necessary for customer recovery unless another thread has been made to state otherwise

I know Joneidy has been playing with a stock 2.2.1, but i'm not sure if he/she was successful at either a downgrade.

If you can get root then send me a copy of your working boot image (data and everything working please upload it to google docs)
I too am very new at the smart phone thing.
Using many excellent posts on this a few other forums I managed to get my 2.2.1 stock phone rooted. I tried downgrading first, didn't work thought I had bricked my 2 day old phone at first. Found how to upgrade it again and went on to the same directions hav0kk seems to have followed. I too get the blank screen that just seems frozen if I try to boot into recovery, at this point im more curious about getting a 2.3 rom and having it rooted.

I am so new at this I would not even know how to get a copy of the boot image. let alone send it.

What program should I use to pull the boot image? where is the boot image located?

I'm looking online now to find some helpful vid/txt tutorials to help me extract. You have any suggestions where I find that info?

I worked with joneidy for a couple days trying to get the recovery to work and to test out a couple of other things. I learned so much like his wifi sucks ;) but in all seriousness you can still have roms made but they will just have to be flashed in a different way then normal. I did forget to try and have him flash a stock boot and system image that way. I ended up saying the hell with that until I finish up with rom zero. Which is getting close I'm also working on applying some of the same things to my phone. Gotta have that reboot function :D But if your feeling gangster fastboot flash the stock 2.2 system image and the stock 2.2 boot image.

My bad gangster should of been spelled with an 'a' at the end instead of 'er'

Well as I see it. This thread is complete. Original problem with getting a black screen was due to using 2.2 customer recovery for a 2.2.1 stock phone (rooted)
The fix is listed above to allow you yourself and others to move forwards.

BTW anyway to lock this thread? There really doesn't need to be anymore replies as this matter is resolved.

Thanks again to joneidy, asadullah
