Should I get the Atrix ??

I just ordered a T-Mobile G2. I'm currently with AT&T but I'm unhappy with their service. I find them to be expensive and I also DON'T have unlimited data. I TRIED several times to get it back with no luck. I can upgrade in May but I ordered the G2 from T-Mobile cause I wanted the cheaper plans and unlimited data. I also like having a keyboard. But I'm having second thoughts. My G2 has not arrived yet. I'm still waiting for it so I haven;t had the time to play with it. What should I do???

T-Mo (USA) has the cheapest plans ($10/mo. for 7Mb/21Mb "web2go" unlimited). However you will need an "unlocked" or "on-T-Mobile branded phone in order to get that rate. If you want Android, I believe the Desire and the Vibrant have T-Mo's HSPA/HSPA+ radios, if that is also concern.

FWIW, I was seeing 4-7Mbs download speeds, throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, with unlocked Nokia on the "web2go" plan.

The G2 is a nice phone and I had it with T-Mobile. It too is considered a 4G phone.
I never used the keyboard because I got real good using swype.

I'm using the ATRIX now and I love it but more importantly, AT&T's service buries T-Mobile where I am. 2Gig of data is more than enough for me and with the Any Mobile calling on AT&T I don't find them to be any less money for my needs. I need minutes over data.

You get a 14 day trial with T-Mobile so you can give it a good test drive and decide.

FWIW, the Dish Network Sling adapter app will stream at over 1Mbs for HD channel streams at 854x480, and upwards of 6Mbs tethered to PC/laptop for higher resolutions.

You can get it back. Try talking to customer retention/loyalty department. I kniow if it was me they would give the unl back. The G2 is just not comparable to the ATRIX. It has 800mhz while ATRIX has 2GHZ of processing power, not to mention all the other advantages ATRIX has...better & larger screen, 1GB ram etc.

I am sure there are multiple reasons for downloading 2GB+ in a month's time.
2GB of data really isn't much at all if you use your phone for any kind of business, or download music, documents, books, movies, porn, etc. Remember these are smartphones, and are used by a whole different demographic than your regular cell phone user. Anyone who is willing to pay the prices for the extra data is most likely using most of it, most of the time.

I know, at&t really gets ya, but they now offer free unl mobile to mobile which I think will allow me to drop my minutes plan down some.

I could go into the grueling experiences on how phone reps can lie through their teeth about how "it's impossible" to give you x and y...or that x and y doesn't even exist...and that even a supervisor can't do it.

The bottom line is:
Don't budge, don't hang-up (even when you think you've lost connection...stay on the line) ...don't believe ANYTHING the reps say...keep on insisting to speak to a supervisor...and constantly remind them how long you've been on the phone with them. It may take an hour + but you'll get it.
It's only fair, YOU had unlimited before so it's not like you're trying to cheat AT&T or something. When they start offering you $$ credit (and even more $$ credit) you know you're getting close...but dont' fall for that either. It'll be the most frustrating thing...but in the end you'll get it.

otoh sometimes you get lucky and you get the phone rep that truly wants to help you out...between them and their supervisor it'll be quite the painless experience.

and oh yeah, when you get your unlimited data back, make sure you get the 4g unlimited data plan. ask for the code on ur unlimited and make sure they tell you hsdppb

It honestly shouldn't be too difficult to get your unlimited plan if it just changed recently(past couple days/ 1 week)

A family member was in the same position as you, all they did was call CS, tell them that they spoke to a rep at an At&t store and the rep told you to call CS to get it back to your original plan. If they say you can't then tell them you want to put in a claim with a supervisor.



edit: More on topic though... If you have great T-Mo service where you're at, and the price is better then I say there's nothing wrong with sticking with that. In all honesty, I only got the Atrix because it's cheaper monthly(family plan) compared to my previous individual VZW line, otherwise I prefer vzw over att

Tried several androids on different carriers in an attempt to dump the iphone 4. Although love my jailbroken iP4, was ready for a change.

Tried Mytouch 4G, Nexus S, Evo, Samsung S (ATT). All had issues and kept coming back to my ATT.

Had the Atrix since release date.

LOVEEEEE IT.

Wish the DL speeds were better but I think it will get better in time. Definitely more consistent than the other carriers.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the Atrix.

I will be getting the Dock and the Laptop shortly.

Give t-mobile a try if pricing is a concern for you as you have 14 days to cancel/return without any penalties. I did, and i found T-Mobile's coverage to be very very poor, so i canceled and went back to ATT with a Nexus One, until now with an atrix

Find what works best for you, and do it. my 2 cents

I have the unlimited data and can upgrade with it. I currently use over 1 GB a month total data. (Half of it is Wifi though.) You can manage your data with apps from the market, as well as use wifi whenever possible. I stream music, check e-mails, read news stories, use GPS etc. I currently have a backflip, so I don't watch movies on it. But, I do plan on doing that when I upgrade to the Atrix. I heard rumors that they are working on an app for Netflix.

I have a family plan with Tmobile and my children have androids and regular devices. I've used the G2 and I'm now trying the Atrix. My kids are staying with Tmo because it's cheaper, but I'm finding myself in areas where I don't have coverage and my kids need to reach me, so coverage wise, I have to consider ATT.

The G2 is a smoother running device (from an OS standpoint) than the Atrix, this may be due to the Motoblur overlay. With the G2 there are no lags, 4G speeds when you have it and excellent voice calling. The Atrix has been laggy; it freezes if you make a request too fast; I have to slow down to use it. Is this motoblur?? You just expect with the Tegra chip and blah blah blah, the device SHOULD NOT have this type of lag or freezing. The noise cancellation on the Atrix is solid, the stereo options are better than with the G2.

I find the Atrix browser to be a bit choppy at times, I did not experience that with the G2. Now is this the device or the network?

Now none of these are a deal breaker, but I gather the Atrix is a plus if you are into gaming or need to take advantage of their accessories to convert it to a netbook. The Atrix has a decent front facing camera; the G2 does not. The Atrix is more pocketable and has a slightly larger viewing window. They both have SWYPE.

With all the lag and freezing, I'd probably still opt for the Atrix over the G2. I think the Atrix is over priced, especially for the issues that have been uncovered with the WIFI. WIFI interrupts data connectivity. I've noticed that WIFI drops off a signal, which is annoying since you try to use WIFI to stay within your 2MB limit.

Once 4G is really ON with ATT, the Atrix might outshine the G2 in performance. The Atrix is very fast, when it's not freezing.

Sorry to hear you have those occurrences, but if it helps the OP any, I can honestly tell you I have almost none of the issues some people report. Hardly any freezing, the only lag I get is a little of the pinch screen lag people have mentioned on the stock browser. My battery life is 5-star (for an android smartphone) no audio or video problems, no WiFi issues and I'm on WiFi on a daily basis.
If you're not into being a little tech savvy with devices though, I'll tell you the same thing I tell my friends and family - stick with an iPhone. I don't really feel Android has been refined enough for general public. For geeks, it is the best thing since sliced bread, but others get quite frustrated with it. I look at it the way I look at PC's. My dad knows shite about working his PC and is always calling me asking how to fix issues. I know he'd be much better off with an iMac since all he does is visit web pages and use email but he's too cheap and Scottish to buy one

If he's only surfing the net, you can pool money with the rest of the family to get him an ipad for his bday lol. That way, he'll get rid of the laptop and not bother you to help
