Moving from the IPad (slowly)....

Do you leave your Gtab in Sleep mode or power it off? For long spans of time, I guess is what I am asking. With the Ipad, u shut it off, come back 2 or 3 days later, turn it on, and it's instant, ready to go. Wondering if gtab does that (how long can it last in sleep mode).

Downloaded the enhancement pack.

The keyboard is terrible! I keep typing in 'p' when I want to backspace. Are the other ROM keypads any better?

Thanks.

i always power mine off, a reboot only takes 30-45 seconds for me. That being said, mine would last about 2 days using sleep mode. if i power off every time i can get 3-4.

yes, the TnT keyboard sucks, and you can't change it. if you switch to VEGAn, you can use any keyboard you want (stock froyo, stock gingerbread, swype, betterkeyboard, etc.); this was one of my main reasons for making the switch initially. now, i simply like VEGAn too much to ever go back. it seems much more refined than TnT, plus it is a lot closer to stock android.

I turn mine off. I downloaded quick boot from the market, its easy to shut off with that app and it saves the hardware button from excessive wear and tear. As for the keyboard, don't forget to download the touch calibration app. It improves touch sensitivity on all the keyboards. Calibrating your screen might help reduce mistyping. I prefer the Gingerbread kb over stock, btw.

Thanks people! Looks like I'll be downloading the Vegan ROM soon! I'm just trying to find fool proof instructions. I like the idea of being able to choose from multiple keyboards.

yes, leaving it in sleep def drained the battery much faster than turning it off. I don't know how Apple does it, it comes on instantly. That's my main gripe so far, I guess. For the IPad, I hated how closed it was, so you trade some good for some bad, etc etc.

Definately go for it. Once you set yourself up the Ipad will be a distant and expensive memory. Oranges instructions and xmr's work and are easy to follow if you get by the tiny bit of new jargon. Even if you mess up nothing is hurt and just float your issue out here.

That thread referenced was one I had found the other day! That makes me feel better that I'm on the right track.

My problem is that I can't even download the z4root apk. I get "Download Unsuccessful. The content is not supported". Of course this is using the terrible browser that came with the Gtab, so I suppose it's because it doesn't know what to do with a zip file. I will dig around a bit and see if I can make the browser download and save it.

skip it, start at step 5. VEGAn is a pre-rooted ROM, so it will root as you install it. just make sure NOT to put your ROM .zip file in the root of the internal SD when you are trying to flash from clockwork. put it in the "Android" folder instead so that you will be able to find it without root access.

Forget the z4root app. It's not needed if installing a custom ROM. It's the beauty of this tablet. It's totally unlocked.

Hey Solid, maybe you should update your post in the "installing a custom ROM" thread since technically the guide is for installing custom roms and z4root is not necessary since the custom roms are pre-rooted?

Edit: Solid you and I think and post alike....it's down right scary. haha

Wow, wow, ......FREAKIN WOW!!

Someone call Viewsonic and tell them they can put the Gtab back at Sears and Staples. You just need some better software. this thing felt like an old 386 with Tapntap, now it feels like a nice fast dual core running some stripped down enhanced Linux!!!

Loving it. I hope this won't be my last post or thread, but it went so smoothly, you may not see me for a bit.

Thanks to all that helped. I'm looking at my IPad now and thinking it may be time to part ways!!

LOL! It is mindblowing how much better the free ROMs are.

A few glitches (Google won't let me login for the market fix, but that's no biggie, I'll keep hacking away on that). Youtube seems to work great, and even my wireless seems to link up with a stronger signal.

Thanks again!

Man, that Clockwork Mod is just AMAZING as well!! Long time linux geek here, so I get excited with a CLI sometimes, lol!

Remember when doing the market fix, you gotta make sure market works first. So you'll have to go through all the mumbo jumbo about signing into google and accepting the terms and conditions.
