Gingerbread (Android 2.3.2) leaked for the Galaxy S i9000 | Android Central

This could be big news, and since it uses ext4 there will be a big boost in performance if an official version ever comes to the US. Its something to look forward to for those who don't flash roms, but also something to look forward to for those who do though as having roms with an official gingerbread would be nice.

There is a very stern warning for this posted over on XDA - I just got done reading over everything:

[LEAK] Unofficail Gingerbread 2.3.2 i9000 Galaxy S - Page 5 - xda-developers

It looks like GB may very well make its way over to the Cappy, HOWEVER wait until a custom ROM is ported over properly to the Cappy.

yes i was reading that after i had posted this originally. im sure something will come through before too long though but i will wait for something stable before i try it

By the time Gingerbread comes to our Cappy's, most of us on this forum will already have a Galaxy S2 device already running 2.3. If Froyo was any indication, don't hold your breath for Gingerbread...... Trust me.

Due to what happened with Froyo and Samsung support in general I highly doubt very many of us will have another Samsung smartphone.

Well not everyone will change their phone as often as a lot of you. Still have over a year till I can upgrade - and then I will wait for a true 4G and 4.3" screen. I have no issues with my Captivate. It's been a great phone knock on wood. If 2.3 come it will be great - if not I'm still happy. I have other vices like Audio and Audis to spend my money on.

^Agreed. I'm also content with the Captivate. I use it for many things already, so I can't complain much. There's only a few things that will really cause me to upgrade next year:
- 4G
- Being able to pay for things with your phone
- An HDMI port

But other than that, I don't know what will really make a phone much better. Better gaming on phones won't really make me buy a newer one.

Also, if they ever find out that cell phone radiation is harmful, then we have nothing to worry about. The Captivate has a less SAR rating than most other smartphones.

You assume too much. I bet many Captivate owners, such as myself, snap up the SGS 2, when it comes out.

I kind of said this too. No more Samsung, just picked up a new plasma, and didn't even give them a consideration. So I score an Atrix, and guess what? The overall experience wasn't that great - locked bootloader (even though motorola said it would be otherwise), so-so camera, the pentile qHD display was better/worse (break even in my book).

So I'm kind of running out of OEMs. I suppose I could try HTC (I had a Tilt/Tilt 2), but nothing really knocking my socks off.

Honestly, the SGS 2 has a dev-able bootloader, functional GPS? I'm probably all over it, especially considering it will have the glorious SAMOLED+, everything positive from the SGS, but with the HUGE design difference of no pentile sub-pixel configuration.

If the SGS 2 comes out and it a huge turd, I might have to buy an iPhone. Seriously, I love Android (even done up a few app prototypes), but I want end-to-end quality components. The display, camera, GPS, battery life are all stellar on the iP4.

Come on, +somebody+ produce a high quality, across the board Android phone.

So your a samsung offical then?

No, not by any means, but I do know english and how to put words into sentences..... "your a samsung official"??? Really? The correct way to word this should be.... "So, (comma) "you're a Samsung official then?". (You also forgot the capitol S in Samsung, it's a proper name).

If you're going to post and try to be a smartass, please try to be "smart" before trying......... Epic fail.

Epic fail? no not at all if your going to comment on my intelligence level by examining my usage of the english language go right ahead.

Feel free to remove any and all possible factors as well. Things such as learning disabilities, amount of which I care, or any and all other factors such as the fact that this is a forum, or english may infact not even be my native language are ALL great reasons to assume someone is outright not intelligent. ;)

I would argue that the biggest fail is saying someone is lacking in intelligence due to their use of grammar on a forum. After all, you can belittle me for my use of english all day long however, we aren't discussing anything involvoing logic, reasoning, or anything higher level at all. Although, I suppose those are all great reasons to bash someone for their use of the english language, I mean after all it is the easiest method of atttack.

Oh also, let me go ahead and be a total smartass.

In the english language, there is something called implication.

Definition

implication: a meaning that is not expressly stated but can be inferred;

Your statement implies you are a Samsung Offical, or have some sort of knowledge on the subject the rest of us are not privvy to.

Why not enlighten us?

After all, in the very first post, there is a link to a leaked WORKING version of gingerbread FOR the Galaxy S series.

I have already said I hate defending Samsung because, I would hate to get let down but, there is some hope so why not run with it? There does seem to be a good chance Samsung will release something relatively soon. After all, they probably want to fix their image.
