I just got off the phone with T-Mobile. There are only the 2 options available even though the Google website says to call t-mobile for upgrade pricing if you are an existing customer. I have been with them for 6 years. I pay $39 for 1500 minutes and $30 for data. Why am I being forced into another plan and not even getting the Nexus One at a discount. They are offering it for $179 with a two year contract for new customers. What about existing customers like me? At least discount the phone for upgrading customers. Am I off base?

Ugh, i just called them and they said if you paid full price (which i dont mind doing) you can get it and it will work, provided you get the data plan on your account. I already have android data too so thats not an issue. As far as upgrading for cheaper, its not being sold by TMOBILE, just service through it. Thats why the prices are like they are.

Not sure if its relevant, but thats my take.

Thanks for your reply, but she was ready to sell it to me. Maybe all this is still too new for them.

I just paid full price (530) for two phones and signed up for the even more plus family plan. It worked out to being a cheaper 2 year total cost as opposed to paying $180 and signing up for a subsidized contract, and I get more services, and have no contract hanging over my head.

We've got 3 phones (2 nexus ones ordered today and an unlocked iPhone), and I wasn't even going to spring for data for my daughter's iPhone, but get it included with the even more plus plan.

Contract plan:
($59.99 voice + $20 unlimited text + $60 data for 2 phones + $10 for 3rd line) x 24 months = $3599, plus 2 nexus ones @$180 each = $3959 total 2 year cost

Even more plus (no contract):
$109 for 750 minutes, unlimited text & data on all 3 phones x 24 months = $2639, plus 2 nexus ones @$530 each = $3699.

Pretty big savings, plus the added extra of my daughter now getting a data plan (albeit just Edge on her iphone)

They don't know or care anything about Nexus One, iPhone, or whatever device you have on even more plus. They only care about the sim.

Pricing for existing T-Mobile customers (from Google's FAQ link below):

Nexus One without service: $529
Nexus One with new, 2-year T-Mobile US service plan for new customers: $179
Nexus One with new, 2-year T-Mobile US service plan for qualifying existing T-Mobile customers who are adding data plans: $279
Nexus One with new, 2-year T-Mobile US service plan for qualifying existing T-Mobile customers who are upgrading their data plans: $379

So, if you are an existing customer (even one out of contract) you don't qualify for the $179 price.

Jeez, ouch. I hope this changes when Verizon gets it.

Currently, if you can't wait until your contract ends, you have to pay the $530 unsubsidized fee.

I'm hoping that T-Mobile gets hit with enough backlash that they change this horrible policy.

Stop blaming T-Mobile, Google is the one doing this, not T-Mobile. Google is trying to control every little piece about this phone, and for existing users this is becoming much more of a headache than a traditional retail store launch would have been.

Another thing that kind of proves this point, is if you cancel your new contract before 120 days you'll be paying 2 fees, 1 to Google for that $350 you owe them for subsidizing, and T-Mobiles $200 for cancelling your contract. Read it in the Terms of Sale if you don't believe me

You agree that the Equipment Recovery Fee is not a penalty but is for liquidated damages Google will incur as a result of such cancellation. These damages may include, but are not limited to, loss of compensation and administrative costs associated with such cancellation or changing of wireless service provider(s), market changes, and changes in ownership. Please note that the Equipment Recovery Fee is imposed by Google and not your chosen carrier and is in addition to any early termination fees that may be charged by your chosen carrier in connection with termination of your wireless plan prior to fulfillment of your chosen carrier

What a sham. . . . . . They are just trying to screw people every way possible. . . . 500 Minutes a month only. . . < WTF is that, 1995 all over again. . . .

*****. . . . They can take the Sexus One and 2 and shove it up their ass.

I will wait till it hits eBay for under 400 Bucks. . . .

Like now, I just bought a Behold 2 for 275 and T-Mobile is trying to get you in a 2 year contract and give you the damn thing for 240. . . . Screw them, I am staying on my unlimited loyalty everything for 70 Bucks a month until they decide to take that away. . . . . .

And to think in a few months other carriers will be rolling out their 4G. Course fast 3G don't mean crap if you cannot even deliver decent 2G in areas.
quit pulling numbers out of places

I know, no one is rolling out their 4G in a few months. Hell AT&T won't even have their HSPA 7.2 up completely till the end of this year. Their software is ready but they need to actually do some back end work before the consumer will see anything, unlike T-Mobiles HSPA 7.2 launch today where everything is complete. Not to mention they are on track for their HSPA+ 21Mbps service by the middle to end of THIS YEAR.

Also T-Mobile's 3G is growing at a much much quicker pace than AT&T's so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they pass AT&T in the next 12-18 months. I mean hell from October 2008 to now they went from 0 possible 3G subscribers to 200million possible subscribers, and that's only in a scant 14 months! How long did it take AT&T to get that many? Also look at all the holes they have in their coverage!

T-Mobile isn't that bad, I don't know why people keep bitching about them. Works perfectly fine for me, never a dropped call, and always on 3G.

do you not understand how business works?

tmobile is obviously paying google a kick back for signing people up who are NEW to tmobile. that is why "new" customers get the full discount.

why would tmobile offer google more money to sell a phone to existing customers when they already have you as one? if you upgrade they are going to pay google something, because if you do buy the phone through google and upgrade you have to resign a 2 year contract and possibly add data.

if you add a data plan you will save more money...why? again tmobile will make more money and pay google more. upgrading data and not adding it makes even less $ if any to tmobile so you get even less of a discount.

it is simple math. new customer....$80 a month for tmobile. adding data is around $25. whereas, an existing customer upgrade does not necessarily make them any more money at all. especially if the existing customer had no plans to leave tmobile.

google is selling the phone...not tmobile. this is also why google wants a fee for canceling. tmobile wont give them $$$ if you cancel before 120 days. GEEZ!

Question: I just ordered an unlocked N1, when it arrives in a couple days I will take it in to a T-Mobile store and activate it on a no-contract plan. Now in 2-3 months, when they come out with the HD2, will I qualify for a new customer contract price on that phone at that time if I want to sign a 2 year contract on the HD2??
I suspect the answer is no, which really sucks.. I think I may have to send my N1 back.

Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks!
