Root serendipity 5.10 - 5.11

an update for serendipity is out: ROM Table - CapFAQ

not sure how to get the update though? i tried downloading it renaming it as a zip and putting it on the root of my sd card. then went into recovery mode and tried to install it but its not working. Any ideas!?

Did you download the 5.10 to 5.11 file? You may have downloaded the plain 5.11 file and that could be your problem. You shouldn't have to rename it and I would just leave it in the main folder and delete it afterward. That way you don't have to look for it in that menu.

Serendipity 5.12 smooth as silk... cant find any problems yet, great battery, voodoo sound and gps even works. I loaded onto root and flashed right over cog 3.04 no problem. Quadrant was a little better than cog 3.04 but i'm going by the experience and its quick and the sound is incredible you cant get voodoo control with the kernel that comes with cognition i know i can swap kernels but why bother ...maybe i will give cognition 5.0 a shot.

this is true i am hoping they get access to the kernal source so we can get voodoo sound on cognition cause man i love my phone actually looking like a captivate not another phone. one thing i will tell you when i was running serendipity my google voice would not stay connected and when i would give the radio in my car access to my phone book the the phone would keep disconnecting from the radio via bluetooth and i would have to re pair both those issues have been solved i can now voice dial in my car over bluetooth and google voice is working perfectly

Have you guys been updating your kernel? It's slightly simpler than updating the rom. I'm not sure, but is it even really that necessary? I just updated my speedmod kernel to k13c.
Keep an eye on your battery and let us know if it starts to drain quickly. I've moved to the Paragon kernel because of the many battery drain issues I've experienced and seen reported.

ahh okay well in that case it will be faster to odin it up. Rather than work my way back up from 5.2. Thanks doing it now.

Just to be clear: You know that if you're going to do a wipe and install that you'll pull from the Download section of the Serendipity site rather than the Update section.

Probably know that already, but just in case.....

Not sure that a full flash will be faster than going through the incrementals (although a boot is required after the application of each incremental). Takes me about 2 hours to do everything from cleaning up the phone to prepare it for the flash all the way to restoring apps and prefs and widgets and customizing everything else. Either I'm slow or everyone else is fast.

Anyway, make sure you remove your SIM card and external microSD card before the flash process if you choose to do a full ROM flash.

I would tend to agree, but he's going from 5.2 to 5.12 so that's ten updates. Still, even if it's a wash on time I'd do it that way rather than a full flash, but ODIN makes me nervous ... probably just me.

I've done about 3 full flashes and, at least for my pea-sized brain, it's a PITA. ODIN's flakiness doesn't help. That's the beauty of Serendipity's incrementals. Even at 5 minutes an incremental...well, you do the math! "More better," for sure.
