Will the Thunderbolt delays effect the Bionic release?

I was waiting for the Thunderbolt, but since it's release has been delayed more than once (unofficially of course), and I told myself I wouldn't upgrade until there was something really worth upgrading too, I've now set my sights on the Bionic. I also think it's probably a good idea to let VZW work out the LTE bugs on the TB and Xoom, and wait for the more polished Bionic.

I can't help but think that since the TB's release has been delayed, that it may push back the release of the Bionic. If the TB finally comes out of hiding sometime in the first half of March, I think the Bionic will be released as planned, but at this point, the end of March wouldn't surprise me..

I really hope that's not the case, and I suppose the TB was Q1, and the Bionic Q2, but there's plenty of room within those time frames for the Bionic to be pushed back a month and still be within the Q2 target. I just don't want to have a fully ready Bionic, sitting in a warehouse gathering dust, because VZW doesn't want to release them too close together.

Everything about the Thunderbolt is starting to irritate me..

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a pile.. It's still going to be the best device on the fastest network when it shows up. I guess the issue is that it's window is already half closed, and the average consumer wont know the difference between LTE and HSPA+.

If everyone is 4G, why would they go with the Thunderbolt when you have better, more future proof phones available from other carriers?

The Droid Bionic better get here quick it Verizon wants to compete with the Galaxy S2, HTC Pyramid etc..

I doubt the Bionic schedule will be affected by the TB. Sounds like the TB delay is technical not political. Either way, both devices will probably be released within Verizon's announced time-frame.

Both devices will have their strengths and weakness. If all you care about is specs the Bionic probably has an upper hand. But specs aren't everything. And not everyone is in the position to switch carriers like cars, their networks are not equal. Niether will be a flop.

I don't get it when someone says specs aren't everything. Specs are everything. Performance, battery life, screen, build material and just about everything else all fall under specifications. There is no more accurate and objective way to compare two phones than by specifications. I don't see the point in subjective stuff when discussing something as straight forward as a smartphone.

I'm not gonna say specs are everything, but I also agree with what you're saying. I will just say specs do play a part in the equation.

I responded on Engadget when the iPad 2 probable specs were revealed. Of course someone in the iPhone, iPad camp said specs arent everything..I responded with: "Specs aren't everything? Then why did so many ppl buy the iPhone 4? The software upgrade? Specs play a part even in Apple land"

Then I asked I wonder what would happen if the next iPhone had the same specs as the previous one, would it sell as much. Someone informed me the iPhone 3G was a very minimal upgrade from the orig iPhone, only changes were adding GPS and 3G. Everything else hardware wise internally stayed the same.

For some reason to some Apple folks on Engadget, GPS and 3G wasnt considered enough specs...to me, a new spec is a new spec. If its something the previous phone didnt have, its a new spec. Seems simple to me.

In my eyes, there has never been an exact same new iPhone released for iPhone folks to say specs dont matter. Each new version of the iPhone outsold the previous version. Each new iPhone added new specs the previous one didnt have.

Also, if specs didnt matter, you wouldnt hear ppl commenting on how elegant, beautiful the iPhone 4 looks..specs isnt always about cpu and gpu.

There might not be a more objective way but how many do you know a lot of people that make purchases purely on objectivity? To take one of your specs, screens, you can't say that display resolution and pixel density is the only metric to be used when comparing products. The Bionic would be inferior in all respects to the iPhone 4 if that were the case. This can be argued from all specs you listed.

Your wrong to think that subjectivity doesn't play a role in peoples mind when comparing objective specs, even with smartphones. I would say smarthphone aren't any more straightforward than computers or automobiles. They haven't been called personal devices for nothing.

Saying something is a pile based on specs without actually having touched and interacted with, is a little shortsighted.

I don't get what you're trying to say. Screen resolution is only one of many attributes a phone could have.

There is nothing more to a computer than specifications, I have no idea why you'd use that as an example to say there's more to something than specs. The fact that a lot of people make decisions based on subjectivity rather than facts does not in any way make it good. Subjectivity is always bad when trying to compare things.

I would say phones are MUCH more personal than computers, so that's a bit of a stretch IMO.

There's really no difference between 10 different 15in laptops besides the specs.

Compare 10 phones that all sport 4in screens and there's going to be TONS of variation besides the specs. A phone is a VERY personal device.. Well not as personal as some 'personal devices' I spose.. :) but it's something you have with you all day. It has to 'feel' right to the owner. Again... talking phones.. lol

Ibrick said it pretty well.

If you compare several laptops with the exact same specs there is still differences that are based on subjectivity besides a brand name. Same with phones.

The fact that people use subjective facts to make decisions makes the decision good for that person. Sure the Bionic out specs any phone announced right now but that doesn't mean the TB is a "pile" because there are elements to a phone, like Ibrick said, that a person may value more than hardware specs.

Yeah specs mean a lot, but everyone with Android should know one of the most important parts by now. That software is huge for our phones. Motorola uses blur, sense for HTC, touchwiz for Samsung. Some of these work better than others regardless of the hardware.

Also it just depends on personal preference.

You're calling it Ibrick, but you are quoting them like they are smart? ;)

Specs, in essence, are not exactly everything. However, people may want it for 1 particular spec. Software, yes, plays a very important role as well. So does price, carrier, brand, etc.

That said, if you wanted a good phone, a combination of everything is everything. You want to have a good priced phone with a reliable carrier and brand with a lot of customizability with some great power behind it so it doesn't go that much out of date in the 2 years you may be stuck in the contract. I don't know if the bionic is the answer to this (stupid locked bootloader) but only time will tell.

My guess for most people on these forums is that they want the best phone they can afford. Best meaning a combination of everything.
